Requirements
  • A Master's of Divinity degree or equivalent degree in an area of theological studies is required.
  • At least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education are required.
  • Must be board certified as a chaplain or eligible for board certification through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education or the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy.
  • Must have strong communication and pastoral skills, emotional energy, mental alertness, and the ability to support patients and loved ones experiencing pain, suffering, death, and grief.
  • Must have good organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Must be computer literate and able to perform extensive and timely charting using the company's electronic medical record system.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of pastoral experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Must demonstrate empathy, compassion, sensitivity, and the ability to support patients and families from interfaith traditions.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse ages, lifestyles, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, religious backgrounds, spiritual beliefs, and values.
  • Must have sufficient professional knowledge and clinical ability to develop and maintain collegial, collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, social workers, clients, and other healthcare team members.
  • Must be able to work independently, take initiative, and be held accountable.
  • Adequate physical and emotional health is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide pastoral and spiritual care to patients and families.
  • Visit and minister to patients, and work with the Clinical Director and other appropriate personnel to develop a spiritual care continuum for hospice patients and families.
  • Conduct spiritual assessments and develop care plans addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, outcomes, and goals.
  • Provide pastoral support at bedside, funerals, and memorials as requested and needed.
  • Document patient visits according to company and compliance policies.
  • Function as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Organize company-sponsored memorial services as appropriate.
  • Provide emotional and spiritual support to staff members.
  • Participate in staff meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, and in-service sessions.
  • Initiate and maintain communication with area interfaith clergy.
  • Facilitate spiritual care by serving as a bridge between patients, families, and clergy for supportive end-of-life sacramental and pastoral care.
  • Assist in educating staff about specific religious needs and issues affecting patients' and families' care and treatment.
  • Report to and remain primarily accountable to the Clinical Director.
  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Hospice experience is desirable.
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement or ordination in a religious setting is desirable.
