Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Hold current appropriate state licensure and meet the practice requirements in the state of employment.
  • Hold current or successfully complete CPR BLS Certification.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience.
  • Successfully complete all Fresenius Kidney Care education and training requirements for new employees before assigned oversight duties.
  • Be able to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation.
  • Be able to frequently stand for prolonged periods and bend over.
  • Be able to move, with assistance, machines and equipment up to 200 pounds and lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 pounds as high as 5 feet.
  • Be able to work in a healthcare facility environment and may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases or materials.
  • Be able to travel to training sites or other facilities when required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment; document findings in the medical record, adjust the treatment plan as indicated, and notify the appropriate clinical personnel or physician as needed.
  • Assess, collaborate on, and document patients’ and families’ basic learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient-care staff, the daily delivery of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy to assigned patients.
  • Administer medications as prescribed or according to approved algorithms and document medical justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures.
  • Serve as a resource, leader, coach, mentor, and role model for new and incumbent employees by demonstrating appropriate behavior, work habits, and attitudes.
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures and reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections.
  • Identify expected outcomes and document and update nursing assessments and plans of care for assigned patients in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options.
  • Participate in facility- and area-level education and quality-improvement projects as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new employees when assigned.
  • Complete Clinical Advancement Program requirements to maintain or advance.
  • Provide assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LVN/LPNs, and RNs as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge after meeting the stated training and hemodialysis-experience requirements.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Perform desk work, computer work, and interactions with patients, facility or hospital staff, and physicians.
