Spectral Research Scientist SME
The Opportunity:
As a Spectral Research Scientist, you’re excited at the prospect of discovering information not always visible to the naked eye and fascinated by the diversity of ways data can be explored. You are in constant pursuit of new approaches, models, tools, and technologies to facilitate that exploration. As part of a research team focused on advancing scientific understanding and technical capability, we need you to help find the answers in the data.
On our team, you’ll use your technical expertise to create real-world impact. You’ll work closely with clients and teammates to understand their questions and needs. You’ll create research road maps and lead the development of experiments, algorithms, and solutions. You’ll use the right combination of existing tools and new concepts to turn data into knowledge to advise your clients as they make informed decisions. Ultimately, you’ll provide a deep understanding of the science, what it all means, and how it can be used.

You Have:
15+ years of experience in spectral remote sensing or image processing
Experience working with scientific programming tools, including Python, R, Matlab, or IDL
Experience developing algorithms for image processing
Knowledge of remote sensing models
Ability to describe common elements of spectral image processing chains
Ability to conceive, communicate, and advocate for research ideas and concepts
Active TS/SCI clearance; with a willingness to obtain a polygraph
Master’s degree in Physics, Remote Sensing, or Electrical Engineering
Nice If You Have:
Experience applying AI/ML to remote sensing problems
Experience proposing and executing research projects
Experience preparing technical reports for publication
Doctorate degree in Physics, Remote Sensing, or Electrical Engineering
Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $110,100.00 to $250,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
