Requirements
  • Ten plus years of experience in insurance accounting and financial management, with a focus on P&C insurance.
  • College degree with an emphasis in accounting, finance, economics, or the equivalent in work experience.
  • CPA, MBA experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance.
  • Hands-on experience in Microsoft Office products, with expertise in Excel.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance regulations, GAAP, and SAP.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports for the P&C insurance division.
  • Manage and coordinate the budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Monitor key financial metrics and provide insights to senior management.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Manage the monthly close process focusing on timely and accurate financial reporting, ensuring SOX compliance, and including proper completion of the month end close checklist.
  • Effectively manage all accounting department personnel.
  • Improve the accuracy and reliability of processes and standard financial/management reports.
  • Implement analytical review processes, exception reporting, etc. to minimize errors, rework, and reconciliations issues.
  • Work with data warehouse team to ensure accurate data is utilized for analyses.
  • Stay informed about changes in insurance regulations and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and auditors to address inquiries and provide necessary documentation.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Manage the insurance accounting team responsible for day-to-day operations, including premium accounting, claims accounting, and reinsurance accounting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
  • Collaborate with the risk management team to assess and mitigate financial risks associated with the P&C insurance operations.
  • Implement strategies to optimize capital efficiency while maintaining solvency requirements.
  • Coordinate external audits and examinations, ensuring timely and accurate provision of required information.
  • Address audit findings and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Work with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies that support the overall business objectives.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making and business planning.
