RTX designs and builds products for both civilian aviation and national defense. Its main units are Collins Aerospace (avionics, interiors, flight systems, and other aircraft technologies), Pratt & Whitney (aircraft engines and propulsion systems), and Raytheon (missiles, sensors, cybersecurity, and other defense technologies). The products work by integrating advanced propulsion, avionics, and defense systems into airplanes and military platforms to improve performance, safety, and security. RTX differs from competitors by combining a broad, integrated portfolio across commercial aviation and defense under one company, with a long history from two historic aerospace and defense groups and a strategy focused on providing end-to-end aerospace and defense solutions. Its goal is to be a leading supplier of reliable, high-performance systems and services for civil aircraft, military platforms, and national security missions.

What believers are saying

  • Commercial aerospace aftermarket supports steadier, higher-margin cash flow.[6]
  • Pratt & Whitney capacity expansions should improve engine throughput by 2028.
  • Record backlog provides strong revenue visibility across defense and commercial programs.

What critics are saying

  • Pratt & Whitney engine reliability issues can trigger inspections, compensation, and margin pressure.
  • Premium valuation leaves limited upside if execution disappoints or defense multiples compress.
  • Long-cycle backlog conversion exposes RTX to supplier delays, labor issues, and program slips.

What makes RTX unique

  • RTX combines Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon franchises.[1][3]
  • Its portfolio spans commercial aviation, propulsion, missiles, and defense electronics.[1][6]
  • RTX operates a broad global footprint across the United States, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.[1][3]

Air Canada's A321XLR fleet to feature Collins Aerospace Aurora suites and economy seats

Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, and Air Canada have announced that Air Canada's new Airbus A321XLR fleet will feature Collins seating throughout. Each aircraft will have 14 Aurora business class suites and 168 Meridian+ economy seats. The custom lie-flat Aurora suites, unveiled at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, are designed to provide a widebody business class experience on single-aisle aircraft. The suites' proprietary shape maximises passenger living space whilst expanding galley capacity for long-haul service. The Meridian+ economy seats incorporate widebody design principles with contoured architecture to provide additional space for passengers. Air Canada has selected enhanced seatback options for improved stowage, inflight entertainment and power supply. The first of 30 Air Canada A321XLRs will enter service this spring.

RTX's Raytheon unveils event-based mid-wave infrared camera for real-time high-speed threat tracking

Raytheon, an RTX business, has successfully demonstrated a first-of-its-kind event-based mid-wave infrared camera that tracks high-speed objects in real time whilst reducing processing and power demands. Unlike traditional cameras that capture full frames, the event-based camera tracks only pixel-level motion, producing a continuous stream of events. During a demonstration in Northern California, the camera tracked multiple targets including ground vehicles, aircraft and live fires by capturing rapid motion unachievable with conventional infrared cameras. By reporting only changes in motion rather than full image frames, it delivered near-instantaneous activity views. Developed under DARPA's FENCE programme, the technology has potential applications in battlefield awareness, missile guidance and surveillance. Raytheon is now exploring follow-on demonstrations across broader mission scenarios.

RTX secures $6.6B F-35 engine contract and releases open-source cyber defense toolkit

RTX has secured a multibillion-dollar contract for F135 engine production supporting the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programme, whilst its subsidiary BBN Technologies released Maude-HCS, an open-source cyber defence toolkit funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The F135 award, valued at approximately $3.8 billion under one modification and referenced as a $6.6 billion package across lots 18 and 19, reinforces Pratt & Whitney's position on the F-35 programme. The Maude-HCS toolkit enables modelling and validation of covert communication networks for cyber defence efforts. RTX shares last closed at $196.21, returning 69.9% over the past year. The announcements deepen RTX's involvement in both software-centric and hardware-heavy defence missions, adding to the company's existing backlog alongside peers including Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.

RTX's BBN Technologies releases open-source Maude-HCS toolkit to validate covert cyber networks

RTX's BBN Technologies has released Maude-HCS, an open-source toolkit that enables cyber defence teams to model, test and validate covert communication networks. Funded by DARPA under its PWND2 program, the toolkit is now available on GitHub. Maude-HCS predicts latency, data rate and detection timelines with just 1% to 9% error compared to experimental deployments. The system replaces weeks of trial-and-error testing with automated analysis delivering results in hours, running on standard eight-core servers. Hidden communication systems are critical for national security and internet freedom, allowing journalists and armed forces to exchange information safely in high-risk environments. The toolkit enables rigorous validation of covert channels before deployment, helping ensure they remain both effective and undetectable whilst meeting mission requirements.

Pratt & Whitney wins $6.6B F135 engine contract to boost F-35 production

Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, has been awarded a $6.6 billion contract for lots 18-19 of the F135 engine, which powers all F-35 Lightning II variants. The contract modification includes $3.8 billion for production, engines, spares, modules and support services. The company is investing heavily to increase production capacity, having committed over $1 billion in the past five years to expand and modernise facilities. These investments have increased current F135 production rates by 20% over previous contract rates. The F135 programme supports over 66,000 jobs across 47 US states and generated more than $9 billion in domestic economic impact in 2025. Pratt & Whitney has delivered over 1,400 production F135 engines for the F-35 programme, which serves 20 allied nations worldwide.
