Course Description:
This course explores contemporary trends and practices in live performance, emphasizing the dynamic relationship between performers, audiences, and cultural contexts. Students engage with critical readings from leading theoretical discourses in sociology, philosophy, cultural studies, performance studies, and critical theory to deepen their understanding of performance as a complex social, political, and aesthetic phenomenon. Through case studies, discussions, and attendance of current productions, the course examines how performance reflects and shapes social, political, and artistic currents in today’s theatre landscape.

Requirements:
Ph.D. or Ph.D ABD in theater studies, or in a related field with a thesis in theater or performance studies.
Expertise in theatre theory, dramaturgy, and critical approaches to performance.
Pedagogical experience at the university level.
Record of research on theatre history, aesthetics, or theoretical frameworks.
Awareness of current national and international trends in theatre studies.
