Requirements
  • A master's degree in nursing is required and education is verified.

Responsibilities
  • Teach and mentor students during experiential clinical coursework.
  • Work on a team supporting an assigned group of students and provide specialized instruction on challenging experiential and clinical coursework.
  • Interact with students in group and one-on-one settings.
  • Oversee clinical learning and help students succeed in their clinical placement settings.
  • Serve as a professional role model for students in communication, ethical comportment, and problem-solving.
  • Provide expertise in an assigned content area and maintain current knowledge in the field.
  • Participate in implementing the philosophy and goals of the program.
  • Foster student learning through innovative teaching practices, including instruction on performing duties in the clinical setting.
  • Respond to student needs and communicate professionally and respectfully with students and members of the WGU community.
  • Refer students for remediation or other needs using WGU policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with the student's assigned coach or preceptor about student progress and concerns.
  • Provide final review and approval of students' clinical time.
  • Offer proactive support and outreach to assigned students.
  • Use technology-based teaching and communication platforms to help students develop competencies.
  • Submit electronic clinical student evaluation forms after completion of a clinical intensive.
  • Collaborate with university professionals to promote a positive student-focused environment.
  • Respond to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines.
  • Conduct in-person and remote methods of student evaluation.
  • Facilitate learning experiences that support students' attainment of knowledge and skills.
  • Execute teaching practice independently with guidance from senior faculty and program leaders.
  • Use available resources to address student concerns and inquiries.
  • Support students in achieving course or program outcomes.
  • Follow university and department policies and best practices.
  • Provide feedback regarding discipline and practice leadership.
  • Support initiatives within the specialty and change-management practices.
Desired Qualifications
  • A doctorate or terminal degree in a specific content area is preferred.
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance-learning students is preferred.
  • Prior experience in clinical teaching or nursing education is preferred.
  • A terminal degree and all applicable licenses or certifications are preferred.
