Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a biological science, clinical laboratory science, biomedical engineering, or related field.
  • At least three years of relevant professional research or clinical laboratory experience, with experience in coagulation, hemostasis, or hematology strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience supervising or leading laboratory personnel or teams.
  • Five years of professional research experience.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of investigators, staff, and trainees.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, including sample receipt, processing, workflow coordination, and scheduling, to ensure timely, high-quality services.
  • Supervise generally ten or more employees and train laboratory staff, students, and trainees; provide ongoing performance feedback and help prioritize day-to-day work.
  • Manage and maintain coagulation and hemostasis instrumentation, including viscoelastic testing platforms, platelet function testing, thrombin generation, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay-based assays; perform routine maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and service coordination.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures, quality control and quality assurance processes, and required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements related to biosafety, human specimen handling, chemical safety, and laboratory safety training.
  • Coordinate with investigators and study teams on sample logistics, assay scheduling, and data return for research projects.
  • Monitor supply levels, place orders, manage inventory, and track equipment service contracts to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Assist with basic budget and recharge-related tasks, including tracking service usage and providing information for billing and rate setting, in collaboration with departmental administration and the Scientific Director.
  • Perform bench work as needed to support assay performance, validation of new methods, and troubleshooting.
  • Design instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment, and other vehicles for data gathering and analysis.
  • Design and apply scientific and numerical models in research.
  • Oversee the development and integrity of data collection and instruments.
  • Manage the administrative, financial, staffing, and planning aspects of research.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a core or service-oriented research laboratory environment with internal billing or recharge structures.
  • Direct experience with coagulation and hemostasis assays and related instrumentation.
