As an early-stage start-up, we are building a product that rethinks what money transfer can do for people, existing at the intersection of family, personal finance, consumer credit, and global remittances.

The Role

As a senior engineer, you’ll be a technical expert working on and solving various backend challenges. This role requires both architecture and coding expertise, and will act as a technical mentor for other team members.

Our Backend Team has a range of projects they work on, and is responsible for solving core platform problems. This involves areas including money, transactions, fraud, and risk. We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of backend engineering with a passion for both quality (craft, reliability, etc.) and velocity (business impact, rapid iteration, scrappiness/pragmatism, etc.). The ideal candidate will also be able to operate both at a high level (strategy) and get into the details (hands-on coding, coding reviews, etc.).

Required Qualifications

Typically 5+ years of backend engineering experience working with a complex code base
Strong programming skills (Java preferred). Our current tech stack includes:

Backend: Java 17, AWS, Python, Lambda
Frontend: React, React Native, Typescript

Startup experience with a demonstrated ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment, continuously grow, and master your craft
A track record of shipping high-quality products and leading projects at scale
An ability to turn business and product ideas into engineering solutions

Pomelo takes a market-based approach to compensation, offering equity and a base salary as part of the compensation package. The estimated base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $190,000 per year. Exact compensation may differ from this range and depends on the candidate’s experience, domain expertise, and interview performance.
