Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in human services is required, preferably with individuals experiencing homelessness or substance use issues.
  • Candidates without a current FDNY F-80 Certificate of Fitness must be able to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
  • The candidate must be willing to obtain CPR and New York City Food Handler’s certifications as needed.
  • The candidate must be flexible and available to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • The candidate must have strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must be reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • The candidate must approach sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise the overall shelter environment to ensure rules are followed, the space remains safe and clean, and positive interactions are maintained.
  • Conduct regular safety and room checks, lead fire drills and evacuations, and monitor kitchen and food preparation if food service staff are unavailable.
  • Manage the daily schedule of activities, ensuring that client services and events happen as planned and that participants and staff are where they need to be.
  • Oversee client appointments by reviewing schedules, dispatching vehicles, distributing carfare, and assigning escorts as needed.
  • Administer breathalyzer tests or observe urine collection when required by program policy, and monitor clients returning from outside appointments.
  • Ensure all paperwork is accurate and complete, and maintain compliance with confidentiality and privacy regulations, including 42 CFR and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
