Inference 1.0: Foundational Infrastructure for Visual Understanding

Inference 1.0: Foundational Infrastructure for Visual Understanding. Today, Roboflow is announcing Inference 1.0, the most trusted and reliable vision AI inference engine. As vision AI has entered a period of exponential growth, the technology must evolve to continue serving the needs of the ecosystem. Processing visual data like images, videos, and real-time streams at enterprise scale is compute intensive and models need to be optimized to fully utilize the latest GPUs for real-world applications. Inference 1.0 is built specifically to handle these unique requirements. The newest version is a modular execution engine with architectural maturity and high-performance, multi-backend support. This gives enterprises a single engine to deploy vision systems at the edge or in the cloud, grounded in four core primitives high scale visual understanding applications require: * Fast model loading and inference * Optimized CPU and GPU resource utilization * Modularity and extensibility * Separation between serving and model runtime "We upgraded to Roboflow inference 1.0, and it solves a big pain point for us thanks to TRT pre-compilation. Previously, TRT compilation happened on the fly, which blocked real-time processes on edge devices in our factories. Now, 1.0 allows the TRT models to use pre-compiled files, making it much easier to load new models across 40+ total streams. We also saw a 20-30% speedup using the API on our production server running 4 streams." - USG Corporation Over 1 billion inferences a week are already being processed with the new Inference 1.0 engine, supporting applications using models like RF-DETR, Segment Anything models, vision-language models (SmolVLM, Qwen3-VL, PaliGemma, Moondream2), OCR, embedding generation (CLIP, Perception Encoder) and YOLO architectures. Inference 1.0 upgrades and performance benchmarks. The new Inference engine increases throughput significantly across a variety of models on cloud and edge GPUs. The 1.0 release provides a new core execution engine with multi-backend support for ONNX, PyTorch, and TensorRT. This means the server automatically chooses the best runtime for the underlying hardware (e.g., utilizing CUDA/TensorRT on NVIDIA GPUs or optimized ONNX on CPUs) automatically. In addition to supporting different runtimes for general speed enhancements, 1.0 has optimizations that further improve overall latency. Cold-start logic reduces the time it takes to swap or load new models into memory, resulting in faster model loading and dynamic batching and multi-threading handles concurrent requests more effectively, optimizing GPU/CPU utilization during high-throughput scenarios, like processing 30fps video streams from multiple cameras. Beyond performance, the new release makes Inference easier to use in production. Cleaner abstraction between the serving layer (HTTP/REST/gRPC) and the model runtime makes the system more modular and easier to debug or extend. Whether you're deploying to a Jetson at the edge, a local Docker container, or a scalable Cloud cluster (GCP/Azure/AWS), the environment is abstracted away. One engine, deploy anywhere. You can self-host or use Inference 1.0 with Roboflow Cloud services. Inference allows you to use the exact same API and integration logic regardless of where a model or workflow is physically hosted. Use Inference 1.0 in Roboflow Cloud. For teams that prefer not to manage complex infrastructure, Inference 1.0 is available natively within Roboflow Cloud. This provides a fully managed, production-grade inference solution that scales effortlessly with your business needs. Whether you need dedicated deployments for sustained, real-time throughput or batch processing for large-scale asynchronous workloads, Inference 1.0 adapts to your specific use case. Inference is specifically tuned for vision AI, providing an optimized infrastructure that cuts compute costs significantly compared to alternative cloud providers. Beyond compute costs, Roboflow, Inc. handle the server orchestration and scaling spikes so your team doesn't have to manage the underlying infrastructure. Just like with the rest of the Roboflow platform, data privacy is built into the foundation of its cloud and Roboflow, Inc. never store your inference inputs or outputs. Roboflow Cloud is SOC 2 Type II certified and HIPAA compliant, ensuring you can confidently deploy mission-critical applications that meet the highest regulatory standards. Self-host Inference 1.0. Complete backwards compatibility makes Inference 1.0 a drop-in replacement for previous versions (enabled via the USE_INFERENCE_MODELS flag), allowing for easy testing and painless migration for anyone self-hosting Inference. With newly optimized runtimes, you'll achieve significantly better GPU utilization and higher overall output. This means you can process more inferences with less compute, actively driving down your hardware costs. For access to the optimized and pre-compiled TensorRT weights, connect with its Sales team. With the underlying hardware environment hidden behind a clean interface, you can change infrastructure without rewriting your application. If you decide to move your models from a local Docker container to a cloud instance, you don't have to overhaul your codebase. The Inference engine handles the translation to the new hardware in the background. Whether you deploy on edge devices or directly inside your own cloud infrastructure, self-hosting Inference gives you control over data residency. By ensuring your data never leaves your environment, it's easier than ever to meet strict in-house security requirements and adhere to regulatory standards like GDPR, HIPAA, and more. Conclusion. Inference 1.0 is built to power a future where all visual data can be turned into visual understanding. By stripping away hardware dependencies and infrastructure headaches, Roboflow, Inc. is giving enterprises the freedom to focus on what actually matters: solving real-world problems. Whether you're putting a model on a remote drone in the field or analyzing millions of images in the cloud, Inference is the fast, reliable foundation you need to make it happen. Roboflow, Inc. is moving vision AI out of the research lab and into everyday life, and Roboflow, Inc. can't wait to see the incredible things you create. Cite this post. Foundational Few-Shot Object Detection Challenge at CVPR 2026

Foundational Few-Shot Object Detection Challenge at CVPR 2026. Roboflow and Carnegie Mellon University are collaborating to release the third iteration of the Foundational Few-Shot Object Detection Challenge at CVPR 2026. In partnership, Roboflow, Inc. has developed Roboflow-20VL, a challenging new dataset that measures the ability of foundation models to localize objects from a few visual examples and textual descriptions. Roboflow-20VL includes 20 diverse datasets from novel domains like supermarket product localization, defect detection, and action contextualization and imaging modalities like X-Rays, thermal images, and aerial photography. Each dataset in Roboflow-20VL has a 10-shot split, as well as annotation instructions for class. Roboflow, Inc. challenge you to define an algorithm that can learn from these multi-modal examples. While foundation models are capable of identifying common objects, existing models struggle to find rare classes, leading to the ad-hoc process of prompt engineering. Instead, Roboflow, Inc. argue that one can principally address the challenge of aligning foundation models to target concepts through the lens of few-shot recognition, by presenting VLMs with a few examples of the target concept. Roboflow, Inc. hope that this challenge motivates the community to develop robust algorithms that can adapt to new domains with a few examples. Roboflow, Inc. has pre-populated the leaderboard with state-of-the-art models like Qwen 2.5VL and GroundingDINO. However, these methods achieve less than 1% accuracy on many datasets in Roboflow-20VL. Roboflow, Inc. invite you to submit a method that can beat its baselines. This year, Roboflow, Inc. will be hosting two challenge tracks: Overall Track: Teams submitting to this track can use any pre-trained model, any training data (except RF20-VL), and any fine-tuning strategies. This track is identical to last year's challenge. In-Context Prompting Track: Teams submitting to this track can use any pre-trained model (or combine the outputs of different pre-trained models). Importantly, teams must not use any gradient-based fine-tuning approaches during training. In-context prompting is allowed during inference. * | Top performing teams can win cash prizes! | * | Overall Track Winner: $500 * | Overall Track Runner Up: $250 * | In-Context Prompting Track Winner: $500 * | In-Context Prompting Runner Up: $250 To be eligible for prizes, teams must submit a technical report, open source their code, and provide instructions on how to reproduce their results. Teams must also beat its best performing official baseline and make their submission visible by the end of the competition to be eligible for prizes. Check out code and technical reports from last year's winning methods here. Top performing teams will be highlighted at this year's Workshop On Open World Vision at CVPR 2026. Check out its previous NeurIPS 2024 and 2025 papers for more details about previous competition winners. The Roboflow20-VL challenge is open from February 20th, 2026 to May 31st 2026 at 11:59PM. Submit your method to its EvalAI leaderboard. Questions about the challenge? The RF100VL Github issues page is a good place to ask. Cite this post. Launch: Workflows Builder 2.0

Launch: Workflows Builder 2.0. Roboflow, Inc. has just launched Workflows Builder 2.0! Roboflow Workflows let you build complex vision pipelines with a visual workflow builder. What's different? Its previous workflow builder was powerful, but understanding block connections and available inputs often required trial and error. The new Workflows Builder has a Drag-to-Connect interface that makes data flow explicit, so you can see how blocks interact and what data moves between them at a glance. Instead of searching through drop downs to find available outputs, you drag a connection from one block to another, making the data flow through your workflow instantly clear. Additional resources. If you're interested in learning more about Workflows, Roboflow, Inc. wrote several guides that walk through specific Workflows step-by-step, including: Missing the old interface? If you got used to the old interface and don't want to switch just yet, you can still use the Legacy Editor by clicking the [?] button and selecting the "Use Legacy Editor". If you have any feedback, please submit it by clicking on the "How's your experience?" widget at the bottom-right of the Workflow Builder. Cite this post. Launch: Advanced Enterprise Security Features

Launch: advanced Enterprise security features. The Enterprise team at Roboflow is focused on helping large organizations collaborate to build cutting-edge vision models and applications. Roboflow, Inc. has released more customizable security and access features to give enterprises granular control of Roboflow. Custom role-based access controls (RBAC). The default RBAC roles in Roboflow cover a lot of ground, but enterprises often need more nuance to get it right. Think Site Managers, Deployment Engineers, or roles tailored exactly to fit your org. With Custom RBAC, enterprises have the power to design any role imaginable. Simply head over to the Team Members settings page. When Custom RBAC is enabled, you can create new roles with any configuration of permissions, and assign them to users just like any other role. Enterprises often have rules about which apis or models they want to allow access to. Roboflow, Inc. has added workflows block governance, which allows enterprises to put controls in place for which workflows are allowed to be used in certain workspaces. Teams already use folder permissions to hide projects or make them read-only. Now, Roboflow, Inc. is extending that capability to Workflows. With workflow folder permissions, you can control who can view or edit workflows at the folder level. Just click set permissions on a workflow folder dropdown, and tailor access exactly how you want it. SSO group folder permissions. While it's great to be able to set permissions for specific users, with large teams it can be tough to manage permissions for all those users. For those teams, Roboflow, Inc. has introduced the ability to set folder permissions using the groups that are already coming over from your SSO provider. If you've got SSO set up for your team, this makes it a breeze to restrict project/workflow folders to just the people who need access. Disabled API keys. Roboflow's advanced API keys give you the power to create multiple API keys, create API keys with custom scopes, and of course permanently revoke an API key if needed - but sometimes you just want to hit "pause." For those situations, Roboflow, Inc. has added a "disable" button in API Key settings that disables an API key temporarily, but can be reenabled later if needed. Public projects control. Roboflow users often share datasets and models publicly on Universe through projects, but many enterprises prefer tighter control over users' capabilities. Today, Roboflow, Inc. is introducing the ability to disable public projects entirely, giving organizations a simple way to ensure everything stays private by default. Roboflow has introduced a suite of advanced governance features designed to give large organizations granular control over their computer vision workflows. These updates include custom Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), SSO-integrated folder permissions, and new governance tools for managing specific workflow blocks and API keys. By balancing robust security with ease of use, Roboflow continues to empower Fortune 500 teams to scale their vision applications safely and efficiently. Use the following entry to cite this post in your research: Sam beran. (Dec 26, 2025). Launch: advanced Enterprise security features. Roboflow blog: https://blog.roboflow.com/shipmas-enterprise/.
