The Team
StepStone Venture Capital is one of the largest venture capital investment firms in the world, currently managing almost $15 billion in assets across fund, direct and secondary investment strategies. The team has over 80 employees with offices in Baltimore, London, La Jolla, and Palo Alto. We actively invest in venture capital partnerships, expansion stage venture/growth equity direct investments and secondary market positions through its fund products.
Role Profile
Business Intelligence interns will be responsible for supporting the activities of the investment team and assisting with the firm’s broader technology integration efforts. This may include but is not limited to data collection/processing, assisting with LP/Investor data requests, helping to transition the firm’s current internal database to new proprietary data applications, and data entry (VC fund financial statement data).
Responsibilities
- Helping to maintain the firm’s internal database and transition to new proprietary data applications
- Data entry and backfilling of underlying portfolio company financial statement information
- Assisting with LP/Investor data requests
- Performing database queries and analysis to support the investment team and the broader needs of the firm such as fundraising, marketing, and compliance on an ad hoc basis
- Generating reports to satisfy the quarterly needs of the investment team
Desired Skills and Experience
Most importantly, ideal candidates should display strong attention to detail, a highly professional manner, and a strong interest in learning about the venture capital ecosystem.
Qualifications
- Junior/Rising senior pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, information systems, computer science, or other related fields
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (mandatory)
- Strong demonstrable analytical and technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with internal and external parties
- A highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work both independently and within a team context
- Must be able to work a consistent schedule
- Database or SQL coding familiarity is a plus
- Related internship experience preferred
