Requirements
  • B.S. from an accredited university in engineering or science
  • Experience in structural analysis: performing hand calculations and finite element modeling/analysis
  • Strong background in solid mechanics, dynamics/environments, and thermal-structural analysis
  • Experience using ANSYS
  • M.S. from an accredited university in engineering or science
  • Experience performing strength, buckling, fatigue, fracture, nonlinear, thermal, and dynamic analyses
  • Experience analyzing rocket engine thrust chambers, rotating and pressure components, bellows, and hot structures
  • Significant experience using ANSYS, particularly in building and maintaining large integrated models
  • Experience using Nastran or ABAQUS
  • Familiarity with TeamCenter and NX
  • Critical thinking: ABL engineers understand the “why” behind all design decisions, operational events and test outcomes
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity: ABL engineers must be comfortable defining their own pathway to an objective
  • End-to-end ownership
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use a computer to complete assignments
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and telepresence
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will typically work in an office environment
Responsibilities
  • Guide design of engines and components
  • Perform structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis for rocket engines and components using hand calculations and FEA
  • Provide analysis and support for tests
  • Provide peer review and guidance for other's analysis
  • Define and document standard structural and thermal analytical processes
