Nationwide Children's Hospital - Toledo commits over $100 million investment in new outpatient facilities to expand local pediatric care in northwest Ohio.

Nationwide Children's Hospital - Toledo commits over $100 million investment in new outpatient facilities to expand local pediatric care in northwest Ohio. (Toledo, Ohio) - Nationwide Children's Hospital - Toledo announced today a planned $100 to $150 million investment to expand pediatric care across the Toledo region over the next five years. The investment will support the construction of two new, state-of-the-art pediatric medical facilities designed to maximize patient safety and experience, enhance care and create capacity to recruit additional providers so children in northwest Ohio can receive more care close to home. "This investment strengthens our ongoing commitment to expanding local access to care for Toledo's children, working collaboratively with other area providers and health care organizations," said Rick Miller, President of Nationwide Children's - Toledo. "It also represents an important economic opportunity for the northwest Ohio region. As we continue to recruit new providers, hire clinical support staff and expand our infrastructure, we anticipate these efforts will create several hundred new jobs locally." The new facilities will house a range of outpatient pediatric services, including but not limited to ancillary diagnostic testing, therapy services, behavioral health programs and clinic space for both pediatric primary care and specialty providers. They will complement the care already offered at Nationwide Children's - Toledo by expanding capacity and improving ease of access for families across the region. These efforts are already making a meaningful difference for local families like the Lorenz family of Perrysburg, who previously traveled to Columbus for certain types of specialty care. "Our family has partnered with Nationwide Children's specialists for more than a decade to support our child with more complex health needs," said Alli and Andy Lorenz, parents of Nationwide Children's - Toledo patient. "With their expansion to Toledo, we can now see the same trusted experts right here in our own community, receive local referrals and coordinate care more easily across multiple providers. This has saved us significant time from traveling out of the region and given us a strong support system knowing our son is receiving the best care possible close to home." Designed to meet the unique needs of children and families, the facilities will feature child-friendly interiors and family-centered care spaces that prioritize comfort, accessibility and clinical excellence. These new environments will support the development of multidisciplinary clinics and programs that bring pediatric subspecialists together under one roof, enabling more coordinated, comprehensive care and improving the overall patient experience. Specific locations and services will be announced in 2026. The targeted opening time frame for these new facilities is 2028 to 2030. "Nationwide Children's continued investment in Toledo is a testament to their statewide commitment to Ohio's children and families," said Governor Mike DeWine. "Their continued growth and expansion will strengthen pediatric care in northwest Ohio and help address challenges like infant mortality, that not only impact Ohio families but families nationwide." Since joining the northwest Ohio community in 2022, Nationwide Children's - Toledo has made remarkable progress in expanding access to pediatric care, recruiting specialized providers and building collaborations with organizations dedicated to improving the health and well-being of local children. In three years, Nationwide Children's - Toledo has recruited over 50 pediatric providers - the largest growth in local pediatric expertise in the region's history - a milestone made possible through close collaboration with other Toledo health systems. "This investment reflects our goal of ensuring Toledo's children and families have access to exceptional care within their own community. Nationwide Children's Hospital - Toledo cannot achieve this goal without continued collaboration with ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital, the University of Toledo, Mercy Health, and other organizations," said R.W. Mills, Chief Medical Officer of Nationwide Children's - Toledo. "We are proud of the progress we've made together, and we're just getting started." Nationwide Children's - Toledo is committed to collaborations that support and enhance pediatric care across the region. From neighboring health systems to independent providers and nonprofit organizations, the hospital believes that collaboration with other stakeholders that support the care as well as the well-being of the child and family is essential to improving whole child health in Toledo. Campus News | Friday, March 20, 2026 Nationwide Children's Hospital, one of central Ohio's primary talent destinations for Columbus State Community College health care graduates, is supporting the college's commitment to double its healthcare graduates with $1 million in funding support. The funding will be used to purchase high-tech medical equipment allowing Columbus State students to prepare and train for their careers using the same systems as the region's major health care employers. Nationwide Children's has a deep and productive relationship with Columbus State. The hospital is both a major employer of the college's new graduates and a leading champion of health sciences education programs for their existing employees. Since 2021, Nationwide Children's has fully funded employees to enroll in Columbus State's respiratory therapy program. Now, the hospital fully supports employees who enroll in seven Columbus State programs that prepare graduates for in-demand, critical roles in the hospital setting. Beyond respiratory therapy, these include nursing (both at the associate and bachelor's degree completion level), medical laboratory technology, medical imaging, pharmacy technician and surgical technology. Columbus State offers students a wide range of healthcare certificate and degree programs to help students obtain their first jobs or to advance in their careers. "For many years, Columbus State has been an invaluable resource in helping us grow and develop our workforce," said Lorina Wise, Chief Human Resources Officer for Nationwide Children's. "From respiratory therapy and pharmacy technology to nursing and other critical clinical roles, their programs create meaningful career pathways for our staff. There has never been a more important time to invest in healthcare talent, and we deeply appreciate Columbus State's commitment to high-quality, affordable education that prepares graduates to thrive in today's healthcare environment." In September 2025, Columbus State broke ground on its newest academic building, OhioHealth Hall, that will enable the college to expand programs that will benefit all the region's health care employers. Nationwide Children's support will fund a large portion of new medical training equipment being purchased for the building. The college will name two new labs in recognition of Nationwide Children's: The RN Skills and the Respiratory Care & Support labs will both reflect the support from Nationwide Children's Hospital. Columbus' Qfm96 Rock N Bowl fundraiser rolls in $92K. Saga Communications Columbus' Qfm96 (WLVQ) raised over $92,000 for Nationwide Children's Hospital's Center for Family Safety and Healing at its 30th annual Rock N Bowl, drawing hundreds to support the hospital's programs addressing family violence. Bowlers paid entry fee donations, bid on raffle items, and competed for bowling pins hand-painted by child patients, with all proceeds helping put an end to child abuse and neglect, teen dating abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse through a combination of public and private resources. The event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Center for Family Safety and Healing since its creation. WLVQ Morning Show Host Jerry Elliott said, "Rock N Bowl has always been a blast, but what makes it truly special for me is what it represents. Nationwide Children's Hospital was there for two of my sons when they were little, and that kind of care stays with you forever. Being part of this event for 30 years isn't just a tradition- it's personal. It means the world to me to give back to a place that gave my family so much." Program Director Mike Dorsey said, "Sustaining an event like Rock N Bowl for 30 years is an amazing achievement. An achievement that is amplified further by the fact that hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars have been raised over the years to help families and children in our community."
