Requirements
  • Develop sound Specific and Aggregate Stop Loss pricing recommendations for prospective and inforce Employer Stop Loss accounts according to underwriting guidelines.
  • Make independent decisions within the designated authority level and maintain proper file documentation.
  • Manage assigned workload to meet productivity requirements and sales goals.
  • Complete facultative approvals for less-tenured underwriters and mentor when necessary.
  • Consult with the sales team to formulate successful sales strategies.
  • Send large-claims reports for nurse review.
  • Develop strategic relationships with sales, brokers, third-party administrators, and other external and internal partners.
  • Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents and producers; analyze results and maintain accountability of agency partners within the department.
  • Provide feedback to senior management to develop underwriting policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Have keen knowledge of medical underwriting practices and principles.
  • Have strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a significant renewal book.
  • Have a high level of awareness and understanding of healthcare payers, health-plan administration, and medical service providers.
  • Have 3 or more years of experience in medical stop-loss underwriting and products.
  • Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Be willing to travel multiple times per year to develop relationships.
