SoftAtHome deploys world's first Wi-Fi 7 repeater on prpl stack with Orange across Europe

SoftAtHome has deployed the world's first Wi-Fi 7 repeater built on a full prpl open-source software stack, now live with Orange in Poland and France, with at least three more European markets to follow. The deployment marks a milestone for prpl, the open-source framework for broadband devices. Orange Poland launched the device in March 2026 as the Smartbox Wi-Fi 7, followed by Orange France's rollout. The repeaters run SoftAtHome's Wifi'ON Smart Wi-Fi software on prpl, which provides a standardised hardware abstraction layer allowing the same software stack to run across different chipset generations. The system uses prplMesh with EasyMesh for interoperability across Orange's gateway environments. The deployment demonstrates that operators can adopt an open platform whilst maintaining seamless subscriber experience. The hardware incorporates recycled plastics and supports repair and refurbishment.
