Requirements
  • Prior military experience directly related to the position or at least two years of experience within the maritime industry.
  • Prior experience with United States Navy auxiliary equipment, including cargo, aircraft, or weapons elevators; watertight doors and hatches; hanger bay doors; and Close-In Weapon System equipment.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities.
  • Flexibility with schedules due to Navy movement and planned support requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Navy Common Access Card or DBIDS security credentials.
  • Valid security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • United States citizenship.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10 certification, or willingness to obtain it.
Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain marine engines, propulsion systems, hydraulic components, and related hull, mechanical, and electrical equipment aboard vessels.
  • Support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of ship machinery.
  • Apply knowledge of maritime mechanical systems, Navy tag-out, WAF programs, and applicable Naval procedures and instructions.
  • Maintain quality records and associated documentation.
  • Mentor junior personnel.
  • Troubleshoot, disassemble, and inspect hull, mechanical, and electrical equipment.
  • Disassemble, clean, assess, and inspect mechanical systems; reassemble them; and conduct operational testing.
  • Work with mechanical system components such as valves, bearings, gears, remote operators, couplings, and system alignment.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and torque wrenches.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions, and manuals; make red-line drawings and design recommendations.
