Requirements
  • Expert-level knowledge of database management: Installation, creation of new instances, space management, database reorganization and internals, backup and recovery, replication, performance monitoring and troubleshooting, identification of bottlenecks in locks, and waits.
  • Expert-level working knowledge of RDBMS, specifically Oracle and PostgreSQL (Required), and NoSQL databases (Preferred) with relevant certifications.
  • Deep understanding and implementation of security standards and best practices for database platforms.
  • Advanced hands-on experience in database tuning and troubleshooting, with a proven track record of resolving complex issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of Oracle replication implementation (Golden Gate/DataGuard).
  • Advanced knowledge of Oracle database internals, Oracle database tuning, and SQL tuning, with the ability to guide and mentor others.
  • Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL administration, patching, upgrades, tuning, and replication (physical and logical). Knowledge of xDB replication, including implementation and troubleshooting, is a significant advantage.
  • Expert working knowledge of backup and recovery for Oracle and PostgreSQL.
  • Advanced implementation knowledge of partitioning and/or sharding concepts, with experience in designing and implementing solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of high availability architectures, including Oracle RAC installations and administration.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of multiple database technologies, including Oracle and PostgreSQL. Extensive experience with more than one database technology is ideal.
  • Advanced understanding of logical and physical data models for structured and unstructured data, with the ability to design and implement complex data solutions.
  • Demonstrated strategic understanding of Database Engineering's role in supporting business processes and the ability to align database strategy with business goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams for estimating, application designs, and implementation strategies, providing technical leadership and guidance.
  • Ability to implement proactive monitoring of all databases to predict and diagnose problems before they impact application performance or user experience.
Responsibilities
  • Solve complex problems, build and maintain databases, and drive Mastercard's database automation and best practices.
  • Administer production, pre-production, UAT, and development database systems.
  • Assist in the design of the database tier for Mastercard's global payments solution.
  • Lead database initiatives for a high-performing engineering team.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members located in multiple geographies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience.
  • Expert-level working knowledge of NoSQL databases (Preferred) with relevant certifications.
