  • Familiarity with Montgomery County communities, issues and culture.
  • Experience growing a social media audience from the ground up.
  • Proven experience in video production and editing, preferably in a journalism or storytelling context.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, trends and content formats.
  • Strong reporting instincts, with the ability to spot compelling, people-centered stories.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative newsroom.
  • Journalistic sensibility, including a commitment to the values of accuracy, fairness and independence.
  • Proficiency with mobile and desktop video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut or similar).
  • Ability to manage deadlines and juggle multiple projects at once.
Responsibilities
  • Pitch, report, film and edit short-form video stories for social platforms, focusing on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
  • Cover a wide range of events and subjects, including local news, community events, profiles and feature stories.
  • Produce videos with a focus on authenticity, storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Develop and implement a platform-specific content strategy across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and others.
  • Write and publish posts, schedule content and monitor performance.
  • Respond to community feedback and help foster a vibrant, engaged audience.
  • Produce newsletter alerts and push notifications.
  • Identify emerging trends and cultural moments in Montgomery County to shape relevant content.
  • Collaborate with editors and reporters to amplify the newsroom’s journalism through social-first storytelling.
  • Help establish best practices for visual reporting and platform-native storytelling.
