Requirements
  • For General and Communications instruction, candidates must have a Bachelor of Arts or Associate of Arts in Administration of Justice or a comparable degree, or three years of law enforcement experience with a public sector agency, plus one year of experience as a law enforcement trainer delivering at least 40 hours per year.
  • For Law instruction, candidates must have a law degree, bachelor's degree, or paralegal certification, or three years of experience as an attorney, member of the judiciary, paralegal handling civil law and process, or law enforcement experience serving civil process with a public sector agency, plus two years of experience as a law enforcement trainer delivering at least 40 hours per year.
  • Candidates must possess law-enforcement-related crisis intervention experience or certification.
  • Candidates must hold nationally recognized Management of Aggressive Behavior instructor certification, including Management of Aggressive Behavior certification.
  • Physical Skills instructors must hold current law enforcement defensive tactics instructor certification from a nationally recognized program requiring at least 40 hours of instruction, have five years of law enforcement experience with a public sector agency, and have two years of experience instructing entry-level, in-service, or remedial defensive tactics training for law enforcement officers.
  • Physical Skills instructors must hold certification as a law enforcement chemical aerosol instructor through a nationally recognized instructor certification program, such as OCAT.
  • Physical Skills instructors must hold certification as a law enforcement expandable baton instructor through a nationally recognized instructor certification program, such as Monadnock MEB.
  • Firearms instructors must hold current law enforcement firearms instructor certification from a nationally recognized program requiring at least 40 hours of instruction, have five years of law enforcement experience with a public sector agency, and have two years of experience instructing entry-level, in-service, or remedial firearms training for law enforcement officers.
  • Candidates must have experience conducting range operations.
  • Certified constables and deputy constables without the required law enforcement trainer experience must successfully complete an Instructor Development Program approved by the Constable Education Training Board.
  • Employment requires successful completion of background checks in accordance with University policies.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver classroom and/or firearms training for the Constable Education Training Program, depending on qualifications.
  • Work as an on-call instructor at training sites across the 37 counties in the western half of Pennsylvania.
  • Teach classes typically scheduled on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays.
  • Conduct range operations when delivering firearms training.
