Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years of work experience as a manufacturing engineer.
  • Experience with machine, equipment, and process design, development, and deployment into a production environment.
  • Ability to solve problems hands-on and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage time and balance priorities under demanding project schedules.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing practices and principles.
  • Experience with root cause analysis techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and quality systems.
  • A track record of managing productivity and cost-savings programs and delivering on savings targets.
  • Strong collaboration, influence, and change-management skills.
  • Experience defining and optimizing bills of materials and routings.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in project management.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes for precision optical lens fabrication and assembly.
  • Develop, document, and optimize metrology processes for optical lens assemblies in production.
  • Collaborate with optical design engineers to ensure the manufacturability of optical lenses and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on quality and long-term reliability.
  • Lead key manufacturing improvements, including sourcing equipment and establishing related processes and procedures.
  • Provide day-to-day support for the production floor by resolving build issues, updating work instructions, and improving yields.
  • Interface with optical component suppliers to optimize product delivery.
  • Qualify new and replacement components and suppliers by defining and implementing appropriate test setups.
  • Create detailed manufacturing instructions and process validation records, and ensure adherence to precision manufacturing standards.
  • Develop and implement new manufacturing technologies and automation to support business strategy.
  • Design tools and fixtures to improve or streamline manufacturing processes.
  • Develop manufacturing processes for optical components using existing equipment and technologies or recommend new cost-efficient approaches.
  • Troubleshoot equipment on the production floor and perform root cause failure analysis.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the manufacturing base in process efficiencies, yields, production rates, changeover efficiencies, and costs.
  • Create and maintain project documentation and communicate information at project status meetings.
  • Apply lean manufacturing techniques to reduce process variability, lower costs, and improve yield.
  • Review, plan, and purchase capital equipment to ensure long-term center stability.
  • Maintain compliance with quality requirements related to medical device regulations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of optical manufacturing techniques, including grinding and polishing methods.
  • Hands-on experience in an aspheric optical shop.
  • Experience with optical metrology equipment such as optical interferometers.
  • Experience with some machine programming.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab.
