Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability as a medical assistant in a hospital or outpatient setting.
  • Proficiency in all Point of Care Testing, including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived testing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in properly labeling and handling specimens.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in stressful situations and move easily between tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive, respectful relationships with co-workers and a diverse population.
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills and the ability to use sound independent judgment.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records or a clinical scheduling system.
  • Reliable and dependable attendance and punctuality, as confirmed by references.
  • Two years of related work experience and a high school-level education, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the ability to obtain certification or registration within 90 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of required pre-employment background screening.
  • Fulfillment of healthcare-worker health requirements, including measles, mumps and rubella vaccination or immunity, varicella vaccination or immunity, tuberculosis screening, COVID-19 vaccination according to university policy, hepatitis B vaccination or immunity, and annual influenza vaccination.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain a comfortable, orderly, safe, and clean environment.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and provide routine information related to medical treatments and procedures.
  • Measure and record vital signs; collect specimens; prepare examination rooms; and select and lay out medical supplies.
  • Maintain medical equipment; record and report patient information; and retrieve laboratory test results and patient files.
  • Escort patients and visitors.
  • Order and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Perform clerical functions related to medical activities, which may include telephone reception.
  • Provide chaperone assistance and assist clinical staff with procedures, treatments, and examinations.
  • Perform all Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived and Point of Care Testing.
  • Retrieve, process, and document activities related to laboratory and diagnostic test results.
  • Perform other duties as needed by the department.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience setting up and assisting with minor surgical procedures using sterile technique.
  • Previous proven experience.
