Requirements
  • 2–5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, including exposure to Non-QM or alternative documentation loans
  • Working knowledge of Non-QM products such as Bank Statement programs, DSCR, Asset Utilization, 1099 income
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex borrower profiles

Responsibilities
  • Underwrite residential mortgage loan applications in compliance with company, investor, and regulatory guidelines
  • Analyze borrower credit, assets, and income, including complex income scenarios such as: Self-employed borrowers; 1099 income; Bank Statement programs; Asset depletion and utilization
  • Review and evaluate personal and business documentation, including 12- and 24-month bank statements, P&Ls, and cash flow statements
  • Maintain an underwriting pipeline that meets established SLAs and productivity benchmarks
  • Deliver clear, well-documented underwriting decisions and conditions aligned with program guidelines
  • Provide written justification for loan decisions and required conditions
  • Partner with Loan Officers, Account Managers, and Operations to resolve file-level questions and move loans efficiently toward closing
  • Support quality control standards, including: Pre-closing defect rate below 10%; Post-closing defect rate below 5%
  • Stay current on Non-QM guideline updates, investor overlays, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement and shared success
