Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing program and licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required, either from the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers or an American Heart Association-recognized equivalent, or from the American Red Cross as CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Ability to perform the required physical functions, including standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working in elevated or confined spaces, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, repetitive hand and limb motions, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Ability to maintain corrected 20/40 vision, recognize objects at varying distances, discriminate between colors, determine depth and distance relationships, and maintain corrected hearing acuity.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
  • Ability to work in a latex-safe environment and maintain tactile and olfactory sensory functions.
  • Ability to qualify physically for respirator use initially and as required.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
Responsibilities
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care as a partner and adviser, respecting patients' and families' culture, values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences.
  • Apply critical reasoning, clinical judgment, and critical thinking within the Licensed Practical Nurse scope of practice to support appropriate care and treatment.
  • Assist medical staff with patient preparation, examinations, and procedures.
  • Interview and screen patients to obtain personal data and chief complaints, document records, and obtain vital signs.
  • Perform telephone and in-person screenings.
  • Assist with recording and reporting responsibilities and document findings relevant to the patient's health status or plan of care accurately and consistently according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Prioritize and document incoming patient phone calls regarding medications and medical conditions, and review them with providers as needed for orders or changes.
  • Clean and stock examination rooms and other supply areas.
  • Document all delivered patient care in the medical record according to medical center policy.
  • Assist with data collection, formulate patient-care plans, and participate in evaluating nursing-action outcomes.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of Licensed Practical Nurse experience is preferred.
