Requirements
  • A minimum Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience managing hematology, including sickle cell disease and thrombosis, is required.
  • Valid Indiana Nursing and Advanced Practice licensure or Physician Assistant licensure is required.
  • The position requires residence in the State of Indiana and routine presence at the Indianapolis center.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise the designated adult/transition Advanced Practice Provider team and ensure patients are medically managed in collaboration with physicians and applicable Indiana scope-of-practice requirements.
  • Manage inpatient and outpatient patients in accordance with license standards.
  • Perform procedures delegated by physicians after competency check-off.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the designated Advanced Practice Provider team and promote effective interdisciplinary team interactions.
  • Evaluate team-specific educational, equipment, and supply needs and coordinate related initiatives and acquisitions.
  • Manage staff and patient concerns, complaints, and questions regarding services, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with budget development and monitoring.
  • Approve paid time off, educational conferences, professional funds, and expense reports for designated teams.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing for clinic and non-clinic coverage, including thrombosis coverage, and assign coverage for absences.
  • Recommend and implement workflow and staffing changes to support quality standards, best practices, strategic plans, procedures, and timeline commitments.
  • Oversee staffing schedules for outreach, home visits, and other required events.
  • Develop and oversee training and instruction for new team members and ongoing team development.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all roles and responsibilities within the Advanced Practice Provider team.
  • Assist teams in establishing and monitoring progress toward competencies, individual goals, and department-specific goals.
  • Create individual goals supporting enterprise-wide strategic goals and monitor and track progress.
  • Monitor and evaluate team and individual performance, conduct annual evaluations and monthly one-on-one meetings, schedule team meetings, and implement corrective action when needed.
  • Conduct patient management activities including health-history review, medication review, physical examination, ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiology studies, treatment-plan development and implementation, education and counseling, and ongoing monitoring and follow-up.
  • Document care in the electronic medical record according to IHI and Ascension St. Vincent Hospital policies.
  • Administer Basic Life Support in accordance with current CPR standards.
  • Serve as the disaster point person for the team and direct patients and staff during emergencies.
