The Telesat Lightspeed System Configuration Management Specialist will be a System Specialist working closely with the Systems Engineering team and in particular with the System Integration, Verification and Validation team.
This position is within the Configuration Management Office and will support the CMO and various segment Project Managers and Leads working on the Lightspeed Program. The ideal candidate has previous experience as a Configuration Management and is enthusiastic about being part of a team that is diverse and at the top of its game.
Main Responsibilities
- Configuration Identification
- Provide support and assist in the coordination of activities to establish rules for configuration item selection and baseline content definition.
- Provide support and assist in the selection of configuration items at appropriate levels of the product structure including the types of configuration documentation required for each CI.
- Asset and Physical Systems Configuration Management
- Define, develop and manage appropriate process, procedures and enabling tools to identify, document and manage LEO lightspeed program physical assets.
- Understand the ITAR process and provide support and assistance to LEO Lightspeed staff as required.
- Maintain an inventory of lightspeed system assets (hardware).
- Control/document systems, hardware and software configurations, including as designed and as built baselines.
- Software Configuration Management - Release Monitoring
- Work with technical teams and PMO to determine exact role and responsibilities for the Systems Configuration Management Specialist related to Software Configuration Management and Release Management.
- Work with software development, test environment managers and verification and test teams to develop and / or refine and document process and procedure for the management of releases into formal test and production environments.
- For each formal release, verify that all required documentation has been generated, signed-off and captured and that the appropriate release package has been generated as per approved process and procedure.
- Validate if outstanding and /or pending changes may impact planned test and/or release activities.
- Aid software development staff, lab managers and/or verification and test teams as required to ensure timely and accurate releases are executed.
- Aid business and technical staff in the execution of Impact Assessments.
- Update the CI Tree CI Tree and other related systems configuration documentation/data resulting from approved changes.
- Support the definition, preparation and execution of configuration item status accounting on configuration items, as designed and as built baselines.
- Support the planning, preparation and execution of Configuration Management verification and audit activities.
- Work with business and technical staff to provide subject matter expertise on Configuration Management processes, procedure, standards, and systems.
- Work with the LEO Lightspeed business and technical staff to define/refine/update and document process for requirements management and traceability
- Support the definition, development, and implementation of improvement of CM processes, procedures and systems.
- Define/update training material for Configuration Identification and Management, Software Configuration / Release Management and Configuration Management process and Procedures.
- Participate in continuous process improvement activities by identifying and driving improvements that will make the Systems Configuration Management and general Configuration Management processes more efficient, reliable, and cost effective.
Main Responsibilities - Document and Library Management Support
- Initiate the update of documents / managed data resulting from approved change requests.
- Work with the Document Management Specialist to track the implementation of document and data updates resulting from approved changes to completion.
- Validate that all released documents are appropriately logged, captured and status updated in the Document Centre.
- In addition, the Systems Configuration Management Specialist will act as a backup for the Lightspeed Document Management Specialist.
Education & Experience - Required
- Bachelor’s or College degree in engineering / science, or another related field. A combination of related experience and education may be accepted.
- 3-6 years of related experience in working in an engineering design environment, interfacing with hardware, systems, software, and test Engineers.
- 2+ years of related experience in Data Management and/or Configuration Management
- 2+ years of related experience in Release Management.
- Formal training, certification or experience in the use and application of Configuration Management standards such as CM2, ANSI-EIA 649, or ISO 10007
Education & Experience - Asset
- Experience using Software configuration management processes and tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in dealing with clients, internal and external stakeholders, senior management and staff.
- Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical individuals.
- Experience with multi-disciplinary, high-performing system or product development teams.
- A team player, collaborative and independently driven.
- Must demonstrate a flexible, open-minded attitude and have strong interpersonal skills.
- Experienced and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office – Intermediate Level.
- Bilingual in English and French is an asset (but not required).
Decision Making & Supervision:
- In this role, the incumbent will significantly influence the execution of the applications and infrastructure for the Lightspeed program. They will need to make recommendations and decisions based on their experience.
- This role has no direct reports, but will work and interact with multi-disciplinary engineering, contracts, legal, and commercial teams.
Working Conditions:
- Working conditions are typical of an office environment.
- Occasional travel, including international travel, is possible.
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain Canadian Reliability Clearance.
