Role: Full time or Shared CFO or Head of Finance
1.Finance & Accounting
a. Core Accounting Operations
i. Continuously Improve monthly close process.
- Evolve as the Company evolves and as accounting
rules change.
- Improve communication flows across Company.
- Perform detailed workpaper reviews, at first, to
build audit-worthy habits.
- Implement ASC718 options expense accounting.
ii. Deliver timely, accurate Monthly GAAP-based Financial
Statements.
iii. Implement Internal and Cost/Expense controls &
reporting, such as:
- Partner with Purchasing to track costs and create
process and reporting around Sensor building,
deployment and depreciation/replacement.
- Chasing down individual’s Rippling and Mercury
charges, including T&E for proper P&L
classification.
- Closely track hiring and people costs with HR.
- Track Revenue/CAC, sales quotas and pipeline
efficiency.
iv. Prepare for Multi-Currency, Multi-Entity
environment (i.e., multiple subsidiaries) including cost-
conscious GL/ERP implementation.
v. Recruit and develop lean, tech-forward team, as
necessary.
vi. Prepare for initial GAAP audit required by investors.
vii. Maintain Banking, Accounting and Auditing relationships.
viii. Identify and manage risks to the business
b. Working Capital, Cash, AR & AP Management.
i. Make sure we have cash available when needed.
ii. Ensure cash we have is being utilized as intended
and planned.
c. FP&A
i. Drive Scalability throughout organization
ii. Maintain Operating Financial Model, updated and
refined monthly that acts as an advance warning, control
on spending and a check on accounting operations
iii. Socialize KPIs derived from modelling and drive Exec
team towards goals
iv. Prepare Board Packages, Budgets & Monthly
reforecasts (develop annual budget and operating plan
with CEO and Board, prep monthly budget vs actuals, KPI
reporting, Saas and other Metrics, etc.)
v. Investor Relations
- Respond to DD requests maintain proper Data Room
& tech
- Maintain & develop additional financing options
strategically
- Leverageable active PE/VC knowledge and network
- Oversee 409a valuations
- Can advise on investment discussions, as desired
vi. Competitive and Public Comparable Analyses
vii. Ad Hoc analyses for discussion and decision making
viii. Identify and communicate trends in cash flows and
balance sheet strength to CEO and Board
2.Admin/Legal
a. Help Marisa oversee and/or execute HR & manage tech stack
until ready for Full time expert
b. Coordinate Legal matters (i.e., negotiate leases, entity creation,
general contract reviews, manage external legal resources) until
ready for full-time expert
c. Administer carta and cap table including modeling future
financings and exits considering preferred and other complex
structures
- Operations – as needed. I have inherited such disparate groups as
Trading Risk, Legal, HR, Gaming User Acquisition, Gaming Data
Science, Overseas Admin (India, HK, UK, Japan, China).
- Strategy & Organization – intentionally affordable, trusted advisor,
financial strategist and agile, versatile startup executive capable of
learning fast, bringing order to chaos and leading significant
initiatives until ready for handoff.
