Requirements
  • Less than one year of required experience.
  • Experience working with hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, drills, impact tools, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to interact with the public and represent the district positively.
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Ability to operate a four-wheel-drive pickup and pull a trailer.
  • Experience hauling and backing utility trailers.
  • Ability to safely operate chainsaws and woodchippers.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • A valid Texas driver's license.
  • Employees must regularly lift or move up to 80 pounds and work in field conditions, confined spaces, underground areas, waterways, ditches, and at various heights.
Responsibilities
  • Perform vegetation maintenance, painting, and construction or maintenance of fences, irrigation systems, floodways, carpentry, gates, and apparatuses on pipelines or rights-of-way.
  • Travel long distances to remote areas and work under minimal supervision.
  • Haul materials and equipment for projects.
  • Drive and operate equipment such as dump trucks and motorized boats.
  • Use chainsaws and woodchippers to clear creeks and fence lines.
  • Assist ROW Technicians II and III with field work, including pipe-to-soil data collection, reading instruments, and equipment maintenance.
  • Enter data on work orders and timekeeping records.
  • Clean, maintain, and inspect all equipment daily.
  • Uphold safety standards and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Interact and coordinate with other district personnel.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and participate on the Hazmat Response Team.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining pipelines, rights-of-way, and floodways.
  • Assist with district special events.
  • Work on call.
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic district levels of service.
  • Participate in continuous-improvement monitoring and innovation efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Perform general maintenance of district structures and grounds, including pipelines and floodways.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience or knowledge of rights-of-way operations or a related field.
  • Equipment operating skills involving agricultural tractors, backhoes, utility tractors, forklifts, or similar equipment.
  • Knowledge of pipeline hydraulics.
  • Ability to read map books or blueprints.
  • Experience cutting and welding.
  • A valid Texas commercial driver's license Class A or B without restriction E.
  • A tanker (N) endorsement.
  • A hazardous materials (H) endorsement with a tanker (N) endorsement.
  • A doubles/triples (T) endorsement.
