Requirements
  • Applicants must provide evidence of teaching potential.
  • A Master's degree is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of Physics sufficient to teach courses from basic Physics through Calculus-based Physics is required.
  • Familiarity with process-based writing, adult learning theory, current pedagogical strategies, instructional and course management software, and technology-enhanced instruction is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and with small and large groups is required.
  • Proficiency in designing and grading tests and creating effective instructional materials is required.
  • Ability to use effective classroom management techniques and work collaboratively with faculty and administration is required.
Responsibilities
  • Teach college-level and pre-college-level science composition and science-related courses.
  • Create an optimum learning environment, respond to student needs, manage effective instructional activities, demonstrate professionalism, develop cooperative work relationships, support college administrative requirements, and maintain competency in the instructional field.
  • Attend department and college workshops, training sessions, development activities, and meetings as necessary.
  • Participate in student learning assessment activities and perform other assigned departmental duties.
  • Develop course syllabi, evaluation procedures, assignment calendars, lesson plans, and conduct classes during scheduled times using department-approved texts.
  • Follow department course-content guidelines and best practices, Owens Community College web-instruction standards when teaching online, classroom-management techniques, and appropriate technology methods.
  • Create and evaluate assignments, assessments, and activities; assign grades; return graded work promptly; maintain attendance and electronic grade records; report attendance and final grades by required deadlines; and administer course evaluations.
  • Use the college course-management system, Microsoft Office Suite, and approved compatible programs; submit requested electronic documents to the department course-management site.
  • Access the Owens email account daily, respond to required messages within 48 hours, check the campus mailbox weekly, respond to student inquiries, and meet with students outside class when necessary.
  • Support the college, School of STEM, mission, vision, and core values while maintaining professional and collegial behavior.
