Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Computer Science, Risk Management, or a related field is required.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in risk, controls, internal audit, technology risk, or related functions is required, preferably within reinsurance, insurance, or financial services.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing automated controls integrated into business processes and technology platforms such as enterprise resource planning systems, policy or claims systems, and data platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives end-to-end from design through implementation and adoption, influencing senior stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, and Technology.
  • Strong knowledge of internal financial controls and internal control over financial reporting concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of information technology general controls, including access, change management, and operations.
  • Strong knowledge of operational risk frameworks and process control design.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity and information security principles.
  • Familiarity with data platforms, extract-transform-load and extract-load-transform processes, and analytics or business intelligence tools such as data warehouses, data lakes, and visualization tools.
  • Experience implementing automated controls within Palantir Foundry or comparable platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Collibra, or cloud-native data stacks.
  • Knowledge of zero-trust principles and automated enforcement within identity and access management and cloud-native environments.
  • Ability to work in an environment of significant change and ambiguity, with proven success influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of automated controls.
  • Own the design and implementation of automated controls embedded directly into investment, underwriting, settlements, finance, and data workflows.
  • Own control execution and operation through the development life cycle and identify clear accountability for control ownership and execution once controls are in production, including transition of ownership and execution to the accountable team.
  • Translate financial, operational, information technology, cybersecurity, data governance, and artificial intelligence risk requirements into automated and other controls embedded in investment, underwriting, settlements, finance, and data workflows.
  • Identify risks associated with business processes and recommend, design, and document controls to address those risks.
  • Simplify and standardize control processes so controls are built in rather than added on.
  • Work with data, technology, and architecture teams to build controls into data pipelines, including data quality checks, reconciliations, lineage, and access control.
  • Establish and implement continuous monitoring, dashboards, and alerts for key controls and risk indicators.
  • Ensure data controls evolve alongside changes to data architecture, pipelines, and downstream consumption.
  • Design, build, and maintain automated internal financial controls over settlements, reserving, and financial reporting, ensuring controls execute reliably and produce auditable evidence.
  • Work with Information Technology to review and confirm appropriate information technology general controls for key applications and the new platform, supporting internal control over financial reporting where applicable.
  • Establish processes and accountability for maintaining control documentation, evidence, and issue tracking as part of day-to-day operations.
  • Work with Information Technology to review and confirm embedded automated controls for managing operational and technology risks, including process failures, data loss, unauthorized access, and system misuse.
  • Establish clear accountability for control execution.
  • Partner with Information Security to ensure robust identity and access management, logging, monitoring, and incident detection within critical processes.
  • Support governance of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and analytics models, including controls over data sourcing, versioning, approvals, performance monitoring, and model changes.
  • Assist in integrating controls into the artificial intelligence and model governance framework aligned with risk and regulatory expectations and clear accountability.
  • Serve as a control lead on transformation initiatives, ensuring controls are considered from design through implementation.
  • Establish and maintain the operating model for automated controls, including ownership, life-cycle management, evidence, exceptions, and remediation.
  • Drive adoption of automation-first and controls-by-design practices through hands-on engagement, workshops, and training with business and technology teams.
  • Establish continuous control monitoring and follow up on issues and remediation to manage risk and control performance in real time.
  • Investigate control exceptions, coordinate remediation, and ensure sustainable fixes are implemented.
  • Develop metrics and dashboards to assess control coverage, reliability, and efficiency, and continuously identify opportunities to further automate, rationalize, and simplify controls.
  • Provide transparent control evidence and performance reporting to business, Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control, Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Information Security Manager, or similar.
  • Experience in a reinsurance or specialty insurance company, particularly with underwriting, pricing, reinsurance settlements, or actuarial data and processes.
  • Exposure to artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, or model risk management and associated control frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform and associated security and control frameworks.

Fortitude Re's formation and launch of Fortitude Carlyle asia reinsurance, ltd. Conyers advised FGH parent, L.P. ("FGP", and together with its subsidiaries, "Fortitude Re") in connection with the structuring, formation and launch of Fortitude Carlyle asia reinsurance, ltd. ("FCA Re"), and its affiliated holding entities. Fortitude Re, a leading global reinsurance company, partnered with global investment firm Carlyle (NASDAQ: CG) to form FCA Re as a Bermuda-based Class E reinsurance sidecar, to support Fortitude Re's strategic expansion into the Asian life and annuity market. FCA Re has secured over US$700 million in deployable capital, including equity and expected debt capacity. In addition to Fortitude Re and Carlyle, equity commitments were made by a consortium of institutional investors including T&D Insurance Group, AllianceBernstein, Shinhan Life, and the National Pension Service of Korea (NPS). Fortitude Re will act as the insurance sponsor, while Carlyle will serve as the asset management sponsor.
