Transatlantic hires boost DLA Piper's global finance capabilities. The firm has added capital solutions and restructuring talent across its US and UK offices with hires from A&O Shearman, McDermott Will & Schulte and Simpson Thacher. DLA Piper has added a quartet of finance lawyers across its London, New York and Houston office as it eyes expansion of its global private market offerings. The transatlantic hires, confirmed on Tuesday (28 July), include London-based partner Jacob Durkin, New York-based partner Kfir Abutbul and Houston-based of counsel Brady Lambeth, the newest members of the firm's global capital solutions team. Abutbul is joined in New York by restructuring partner Kristine Manoukian. Noting increasing demand from lenders, investors, companies and sponsors working across complex markets, DLA Piper said the appointments reflected its "strategic commitment to expanding a premier global private markets platform that delivers seamless, cross-border advice across the full range of financing and liquidity solutions". In the US. Abutbul brings more than 15 years' experience advising credit funds, private equity sponsors and institutional investors across every stage of private capital investments. He arrives from A&O Shearman, where he spent the past three years at the helm of its capital solutions and energy and infrastructure teams. Prior to this, he served as vice-chair of Paul Hastings' energy and infrastructure practice and held roles at Willkie Far & Gallagher, Kirkland & Ellis, Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman and Freshfields. Lambeth is a former A&O Shearman senior associate specialising in structured equity for private equity sponsors and other private capital providers. Manoukian exits McDermott Will & Schulte after an eight-year tenure, having previously enjoyed stints at Clifford Chance, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and Richards, Layton & Finger. Her work covers complex creditor-side matters, liability management transactions, distressed investments, Chapter 11 restructurings and workouts, with a client base spanning purchasers, creditors, ad hoc groups and other investors. Across the pond. Durkin arrives in London from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where he made partner in 2023. He guides alternative capital providers, investment banks and sponsors on complex financing transactions relating to direct lending, syndicated lending, private credit and special situation transactions. In his earlier career, Durkin held roles at Proskauer Rose, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy (now Milbank), Ashurst, HCLS (now KMT Law) and Clifford Chance. DLA Piper's global capital solutions head Ranesh Ramanathan commented: "Kfir, Jacob, and Kristine are outstanding additions to our firm, bringing deep experience and highly differentiated capabilities that are increasingly in demand among investors, lenders, sponsors, and companies operating in complex market environments."
