Requirements
  • Experience building operational systems in a growing company, such as in operations or chief-of-staff work at a B2B scaleup, as an operator at a company builder, as a forward deployed engineer with customer process exposure, or through founding a company.
  • Experience implementing initiatives across multiple locations simultaneously.
  • A track record of building and operating automations, scripts, agents, or data models in production.
  • Ability to quickly analyze unfamiliar processes and distinguish substantive steps from accumulated habits.
  • Ability to build automations, data flows, and interfaces; being a software engineer is not required, but the person must be able to build what they decide.
  • Ability to use artificial intelligence for process analysis, research, and increasing personal output.
  • Ability to explain technical decisions so that experienced tax professionals understand the consequences and can act on them.
  • Ability to lead a small team both functionally and disciplinarily, including selection, allocation of responsibilities, and development.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze accounting, payroll, closing, and advisory processes at the locations and automate the portions that can be automated.
  • Own the operational business tool stack and company-wide standards, deciding what to buy, build, or retire.
  • Increase utilization of existing functionality and tools.
  • Ensure each process can support twice the client volume without requiring twice as many people.
  • Own the technical integration of each acquired location, including system connections, data migration, access, security, and day-one operational readiness.
  • Turn acquisitions into a repeatable integration process and reduce implementation time across locations.
  • Bring acquired teams onto the company’s processes and tools while identifying practices they perform better.
  • Build the Operations team to six or seven generalists, select team members, and assign their focus areas.
  • Personally own uncovered areas, including technology operations, cloud infrastructure, and automation of personnel processes until dedicated specialists are added.
  • Own leading operational metrics such as digitization, adoption of new tools, and processing times by location, and investigate their causes.
  • Lead the team while continuing to build hands-on systems and automations.
  • Establish Operations as a function that can operate without daily executive involvement and support repeatable integrations as the company grows.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong consulting background, such as McKinsey, BCG, Bain, or comparable experience.
  • Experience as an operations or chief-of-staff professional at a B2B scaleup after Series B.
  • Experience as an operator at a company builder such as Rocket Internet or Razor Group.
  • Experience as a forward deployed engineer with customer contact in real processes.
  • Experience as a tax advisor or auditor with industry knowledge and a self-built automation track.
  • Experience as a business informatics professional who started in a corporation and moved into a startup.
  • Experience as an industrial engineer with multi-site rollout experience.
  • Experience as a founder after selling or closing a company.
  • Automation depth and applicability to the medium-sized business sector.
  • Ability to learn from experienced practitioners and operate effectively in a newly created function.
