Research / Financial Advisor Solutions Team (“FAST”) Summary
The Financial Advisor Solutions Team (FAST) sits within AWMS, the wealth management distribution arm for Ares, and works with both portfolio management and distribution teams to support the growing democratization of private investments. As such, our goal is to be the first call that financial advisors make when investing in private markets. To help deliver on that, FAST provides research, education, and tools that demonstrate the diversification and performance benefits alternatives can offer within a broader portfolio.
The FAST team is like a startup within an established firm. We are now looking to add an exceptional Senior Wealth Strategist at the Principal level to our growing team in Denver. The Senior Wealth Strategist will be a critical part of shaping the future trajectory of the team and get in on the ground floor of the most interesting sector in finance, in the early innings of a major industry shift.
Key Responsibilities
Through ongoing consultation and analysis, support advisors in constructing efficient private market allocations that can help address investors’ diversification needs, risk parameters and life goals.
Design and build out a robust analysis engine and model recommendations that can be used to deliver unique insights to advisors and clients.
Originate and drive institutional thought leadership through regularly published market intelligence pieces.
Headline large speaking engagements on the topics of private markets, macro environment, portfolio construction and asset allocation. Build into practice management, behavioral finance and related topics.
Partner with Sales in-market and virtually to meet with financial advisors 1:1 and/or in group sessions to deliver institutional-quality thought leadership and market insights. Frequent travel with the sales team in their respective markets is a key part of the role. Serve as a first-call resource for sales teams’ questions and positioning ideas.
Play an instrumental role in product development, working with senior leadership across the organization.
Mentor and grow junior team members as well as those on surrounding teams.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
15+ years of work experience in portfolio construction, private markets and asset management. Preferred backgrounds include portfolio management, deal team, CIO and consulting.
Series 7 & 63 licenses preferred; must be capable of obtaining licensing within 120 days if not currently held.
MBA, CFA, CAIA or CFP designations a plus.
Entrepreneurial, business-owner mindset with an ability to identify new business opportunities, process improvements and sales ideas.
Team player with excellent interpersonal skills; collaboratively work with Relationship Managers, Marketing, Investment and IR teams, Quant teams, Product Development, Compliance and Executive Leadership.
Strong public and private markets knowledge with ability to articulate complex concepts to audiences with varying degrees of investment acumen.
Deep understanding of economics, financial markets, investment concepts, styles and issues.
Exemplary written and live presentation skills.
Strong quantitative capabilities and an attention to detail, including:
Institutional portfolio construction modelling, portfolio optimization, and factor analysis expertise (for examples, see “Modern Investment Management: An Equilibrium Approach” Litterman, et al.; “Expected Returns” Ilmanen; “Asset Management” Ang)
Proficient Excel modelling skills and a deep grasp of functions and shortcuts to handle and manipulate large data sets
Proficient with PowerPoint and Word to create and deliver clear narratives that tell a powerful story
Experience building Excel macros and working in R or Python is a plus
Experience with Bloomberg, Venn, Preqin and PitchBook applications is a plus

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
$200,000 - $250,000 / annum
