Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED and two years of relevant drafting or design work experience, which may include construction management in a design capacity, or an associate's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Architectural Technology.
  • Computer proficiency with the ability to perform drafting and design in AutoCAD 2D.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and prepare civil, structural, and architectural construction drawings, including plans, sections, and details.
  • Knowledge of interpreting company plates, layouts, field sketches, and other drawings involving color coding, including gas, electric, steam, company mains and services, conduit, and regulator plates.
  • Working knowledge of civil, structural, and architectural design issues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments in an organized and detail-oriented manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and team-building skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work non-business hours during emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work at field locations in all weather and adverse conditions, including excessive heat, cold, noise, height, and confined spaces.
  • Willingness and ability to wear necessary personal protective equipment, including fire-retardant clothing and a safety harness.
  • Successful completion of all required placement exams.
  • Ability to perform extensive walking, climbing, bending, and kneeling when field work requires it.
  • Ability to use stairs to reach a second-floor work location.
Responsibilities
  • Provide service determination rulings.
  • Design and draw gas main and service layouts.
  • Interpret construction documents.
  • Develop estimates.
  • Update maps and records.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and regulations.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan, design, draw, map, and estimate layout work for adding new facilities to the gas distribution system.
  • Evaluate distribution system capacity and provide for load growth.
  • Perform drafting and design in AutoCAD 2D or the current drawing program.
  • Use current computer technologies to render 3D designs.
  • Read, interpret, and prepare civil, structural, and architectural construction drawings, including plans, sections, and details, and interpret company plates, layouts, field sketches, and other drawings.
  • Work in various groups based on departmental need.
  • Make field visits as required or necessary.
  • Advance toward the senior designer career path in Gas Engineering.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of 3D design and the ability to use current computer technologies to render 3D designs.
  • Knowledge of MicroStation and eGIS.
