Requirements
  • At least 1 year of experience, preferably in food research and development, product development, sensory evaluation, laboratories, kitchens, or manufacturing environments.
  • A post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree is preferred, preferably in a science or science-adjacent discipline.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to sample Riverside brands’ products and ingredients or products of interest.
  • Ability to lift and move ingredients, samples, and equipment as required.
  • Ability to travel regularly between Riverside manufacturing sites in the Toronto/Vaughan area.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain an adequate stock of required ingredients and consumables using first-in, first-out and traceability principles.
  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness and tidiness in conjunction with technical teams.
  • Improve laboratory organization and task-space efficiency.
  • Develop and lead initiatives to encourage good laboratory practices among technical teams, including laboratory audits, disposal of old materials, labeling, and cleaning storage areas.
  • Organize and inventory products and ingredients in cupboards, freezers, and other technical storage spaces.
  • Maintain research and development laboratory equipment and tools, including scheduled calibrations and replacements.
  • Collaborate with Health and Safety and Quality teams to maintain and implement laboratory personnel and food-safety policies.
  • Implement shelf-life protocols according to research and development procedures.
  • Organize shelf-life sample storage and prepare samples for sensory evaluations.
  • Conduct shelf-life tastings with the research and development team.
  • Support scientists in producing shelf-life reports.
  • Act as the subject-matter expert for the Compusense program.
  • Independently produce, package, and label benchtop samples according to research and development requirements.
  • Follow required procedures to ship samples to customers.
  • Create and manage purchase orders, track invoices, and support procurement processes for the research and development and Innovation teams.

  • Experience working in kitchens, laboratories, or manufacturing environments.
