Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education is required.
  • A current Texas Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using the nursing process to provide care for clients with complex nursing needs and to guide and direct others who provide care.
  • Ability to apply the nursing process at the unit, team, or work-group level to improve care.
  • Ability to identify potential client problems and take appropriate nursing measures to intervene.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client care consistent with accrediting and regulatory bodies, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Nursing Service standards.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, families or significant others, professional and support personnel, and members of other services.
  • Ability to identify ethical issues in practice and take appropriate action, including advocating for client self-determination.
  • Ability to collaborate with other disciplines and caregivers and use group processes for interdisciplinary problem-solving.
  • Ability to act to avert or manage situations in a safe and therapeutic manner.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and tact in dealing with patients, families, and staff.
  • Proficiency in keyboarding and basic computer operations.
  • Physical capability to initiate crisis-intervention measures and the knowledge and ability to perform nursing care in an emergency.
  • Understanding and proficiency with business tools and technology, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, data-analytic tools, and Visio.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver and improve holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.
  • Provide nursing care for clients with complex nursing care needs.
  • Apply the nursing process to improve care at the unit, team, or work-group level.
  • Identify client problems and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the delivery of client care.
  • Identify and address ethical issues in practice and advocate for client self-determination.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and caregivers through interdisciplinary problem-solving.
  • Provide assignments that reflect optimum use of staff availability.
  • Avert or manage situations to meet client needs in a safe and therapeutic manner.
  • Function as a team leader and use team approaches to identify, analyze, and resolve problems.
