Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Responsibilities
  • The Senior Planning and Accounting Analyst is an administrative position that develops and supervises the work activities of the business operations team.
  • Budget and Account Management: Financial system (Workday) and budget planning system (Adaptive Planning) data entry and account reporting, included budgeted to actual analysis.
  • Monitors account expenditures, maintains and reconciles account budgets.
  • Advises and/or determines which expenditures are within guidelines, informs management of irregularities and proceed with corrective action.
  • Manages the quarterly and year-end forecasting (budgets) for the School.
  • Manages a wide variety of accounts from several funding sources – general operating, discretionary accounts, and gift accounts.
  • Managers and controls the personnel services budget by allocating positions and budget to appropriate job classifications.
  • Approves Foundation documents and is able to look up account information.
  • Participates in internal and external audits by responding to requests for presentation of supporting files, documents, and other associated media from external and/or internal audit staff.
  • Analysis and Reporting: Analyzes and interprets statistical, financial, and management planning data for decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Analyzes revenue and spending trends and prepares budget projections and recommendations based on goals and priorities of the School.
  • Utilizes data from a variety of sources to produce financial and administrative reports that reflect the health of the budget.
  • Analyzes and plans for staffing, capital equipment/improvement, supplies and service requests.
  • Administrative: Prepares and tracks temporary commitments for the School.
  • Reviews and approves travel claims and oversees unassigned travel card transactions.
  • Works with research advancement team and HR team to maintain position accounting to ensure use of correct funding accounts.
  • Participates in the development of long-range strategic plan for the School.
  • Supervises, hires, trains, and develops assigned staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the continuity of department operations and to meet customer service needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of University fiscal policies and procedures and overall fiscal administration to include budgeting and account management.
  • Experience with ASU systems, including Workday, Adaptive Planning, Concur, Docuware, AdobeSign, Data Warehouse and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience interpreting and applying ASU policies and procedures.
  • Experience providing financial and operational support in a higher education environment.
  • Ability to work with multiple funding sources.
  • Ability to prepare detailed financial information for a variety of constituencies.
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Human Resource standards and principles.
