Requirements
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Skill in applying and removing orthopedic casts, splints, and braces.
  • Ability to educate patients and demonstrate the use of mobility aids.
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians and clinical staff.
  • Ability to manage time and resources in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Experience with basic computer use and electronic medical record systems.
  • Completion of a 2-year college or technical training program.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification.
Responsibilities
  • Apply and remove casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on injury care, cast care, and the use of crutches, walkers, and other durable medical equipment.
  • Adjust and maintain traction equipment and orthopedic tools.
  • Support orthopedic physicians, surgeons, and sports medicine providers during patient care.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, radiology, and other departments.
  • Perform patient intake and discharge under provider supervision.
  • Document patient interactions in the electronic medical record.
  • Adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, infection control, and safety guidelines.
  • Stay current with organizational policies, electronic medical record workflows, and required training.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as an Orthopedic Technician and familiarity with durable medical equipment supplies.
