Role Description
The Advanced Product Development team is a multidisciplinary group, focused on delivering designs for the next generation of Form Energy’s utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. The team does early-phase engineering to evaluate alternative concepts and choose the best design path to meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines.
We’re hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our team in Weirton, WV. In this role, you will work in close collaboration with the Research & Development, Manufacturing, Process, and Supply Chain teams. You’ll act as a player-coach to effectively grow and mentor a well rounded engineering team in our fast-paced technical environment.

What you’ll do:
Manage and grow a world-class team of mechanical engineers that deliver on key objectives toward advancing Form Energy’s battery product development efforts
Create white-page designs that will be the foundation of Form Energy’s Gen 2 product
Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, DFM, DFA, cost, reliability
Work with consulting companies, vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production
Drive verification testing of your team’s design work
What you’ll bring:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; with 10+ years of industry experience
Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct reports
Well-developed experience designing mechanical components and assemblies composed of low-cost metal and plastic for high-volume manufacture in a hardware product development company
Expert in new product development for high-volume manufacturing
Experience implementing design for manufacturing & assembly (DFMA) principles
Strong technical communication skills, especially with external parties and across internal functional teams
