Anglian Water Interconnector Phase Two (IC2). Posted on Jul 09, 2026 Deliveries underway for a major strategic water infrastructure project. FT Pipeline Systems has begun receiving deliveries of coated and lined steel pipes for Anglian Water's Interconnector Phase Two (IC2) project, a significant 260km pipeline that will help improve the resilience of water supplies across the East of England. Designed to transfer water from North Lincolnshire to areas with greater demand including Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. the project forms an important part of the region's long-term water infrastructure strategy. The first shipment has successfully arrived at King's Lynn Docks, where the pipes are being carefully discharged before entering FT Pipeline Systems' comprehensive five-point inspection process. In total, FT will supply 34km of 813mm diameter steel pipe, with deliveries split across five vessels scheduled to arrive through to October. To support efficient quality assurance and traceability throughout the project, the team is also utilising FT Pipeline Systems' new digital pipe inspection app. The system streamlines inspection, tracking and processing, providing greater visibility and improved efficiency as each delivery is received and prepared for installation. The IC2 scheme is being delivered by the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA), a collaborative partnership between Anglian Water, Costain, Jacobs and Mott MacDonald Bentley. Working alongside the alliance, FT Pipeline Systems is proud to contribute to a project that will strengthen regional water security and help ensure reliable water supplies for communities across the East of England for years to come.

A pilot initiative exploring how gardens, landscapes and green infrastructure can create more resilient, desirable and successful communities. Adam White Why This Matters As climate change, water scarcity, flooding, overheating and biodiversity loss reshape the way places are designed, landscape has become critical infrastructure. Gardens, green spaces, streetscapes, green corridors and country parks are no longer simply amenities. They help manage water, support biodiversity, improve health and wellbeing, create opportunities for play and strengthen community identity. At the same time, homebuyers increasingly value access to nature, attractive green spaces, wildlife, shade and outdoor living. The Climate Resilient Communities Standard(TM) is being developed to help developers, planners and communities better understand, measure and demonstrate the value of high-quality gardens, landscapes and green infrastructure within new housing developments. In partnership with Anglian Water, Davies White Ltd led a one-day workshop at the renowned Beth Chatto Gardens to explore how gardens and landscapes in new housing developments can be designed to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and water stress. How Davies White Ltd Got Here Over the past 18 months, Davies White Landscape Architects and the Sustainable Landscape Foundation have been working with developers, water companies, stewardship organisations and industry leaders to explore the future of landscape-led development. This has included collaboration with Anglian Water and the Future Homes Hub through workshops and discussions focused on water-smart communities, climate resilience, biodiversity enhancement and long-term stewardship. A common challenge has emerged. Whilst there are recognised frameworks such as the EPC for assessing the energy performance of homes, there is currently no simple and widely recognised way of assessing the quality, resilience and long-term performance of the gardens, landscapes and green infrastructure that surround them. Discussions with representatives from the RHS, Sustainable Landscape Foundation, Landscape Institute, BALI, developers, water companies and other stakeholders have highlighted growing interest in exploring a practical framework that could help define, measure and promote climate-resilient communities. The Opportunity The EPC transformed how people think about energy performance within the home. The wider development, including parks, country parks, green corridors, open spaces, biodiversity networks and long-term stewardship arrangements. Together these elements create the places people experience every day.The Standard is intended not only as an assessment framework, but also as a catalyst for better landscape-led design and delivery. Pilot Opportunity Davies White Landscape Architects and the Sustainable Landscape Foundation are seeking a small number of pilot developments.The pilot programme will test the framework, refine the assessment criteria and generate practical recommendations for future projects. Mushroom and AI-focused startups secure £58m for water innovation. Article by Aniqah Majid UK STARTUPS specialising in water and wastewater treatment have secured a massive £58m (US$78m) in investment from Ofwat's Water Innovation Fund. From mushroom-based filters, to river acoustics, 19 businesses have been awarded a share of funding to scale their technologies as part of the Water Innovation Fund's sixth Water Breakthrough Challenge. The Fund has set the plan to invest £600m between 2020 and 2030 in technologies that can improve the water sector. Water innovations. Among the winners of this year's challenge includes Anglian Water's mycofiltration project, where mycelia, a root-like fungi, is being used to manage storm overflows. The fungi is "exceptional" at filtering water - using enzymes to break contaminants, including heavy metals and bacteria, into harmless compounds. Anglian Water, which has collaborated with Spore and Anvil and Imperial College London on the project, was awarded £1.5m. Another winning startup includes Severn Trent Water and SUEZ's "Good Vibrations" project which is using AI to listen to river acoustics to monitor their ecosystem health. Also awarded £1.5m, the technology works on the basis that healthy rivers produce a lot of sound. Lori Lawson Handley, the senior freshwater molecular ecologist UK at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, and partner of the project said: ""Our project is a unique opportunity to combine eco-acoustics with environmental DNA analyses to provide detailed, real-time insights into how river biodiversity responds to stress from pollution and climate change." Long-term UK investment. The Water Innovation Fund has so far invested more than £190 million across 109 projects through the Innovation in Water Challenge, Water Breakthrough Challenge and Water Discovery Challenge competitions. With a focus on net zero, the fund was started to scale technologies that manage pollution and leaks in England and Wales, with a priority in protecting ecosystems. Jo Jolly, the director of innovation at Ofwat, said: "The water sector is going through its biggest transformation in 30 years. We have to make sure these changes drive far better outcomes for society and the environment. Multiple urgent challenges must be solved. And, importantly, our mindset must change. "So that's our mission: bold, innovative solutions that take a long-term approach to the health of our vital water system and the impact of the water industry on environments and communities."
