Requirements
  • High school graduate, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Previous experience with a background in manufacturing or inspection is preferred.
  • Ability to use and read basic inspection tools such as rulers, scales, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Ability to learn raw material and manufactured product identification numbers.
  • Ability to identify small, very fine imperfections and surface flaws in material.
  • Basic computer knowledge and math skills, including adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing information.
  • Ability to work individually and with others as a team member to continuously improve the company.
  • Ability to stand and bend for the entire shift, lift 50–70 pounds occasionally from floor level, and push and pull order carts weighing up to 150 pounds.
  • Ability to move and lift full lengths of pipe measuring 12 to 24 feet.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure Merit Brass quality standards and expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Perform in-process inspections of cut blanks, stamped nipples, and threaded nipples according to specifications during manufacturing stages.
  • Inspect pipe intended for production and confirm that it meets or exceeds required industrial standards, tracking measurements with heat numbers for traceability.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and approve manufacturing setups.
  • Perform final inspections of washed nipples according to documented processes.
  • Use rulers, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and Positive Material Identification equipment to ensure material is within specifications.
  • Communicate required manufacturing adjustments to manufacturing supervisors in a timely and regular manner.
  • Inspect Merit-purchased products according to defined criteria and measurements using standard physical and mechanical gauges.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of traceability information and inspection and testing results.
  • Serve as a resource and content expert for team members regarding quality trends in production orders and pipe manufacturers.
  • Work with other quality personnel to ensure required paperwork is completed.
  • Ensure work areas and operations conform to safety requirements and remain hazard-free.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
