Requirements
  • Master’s degree from accredited Physician Assistant program or completion of a master’s level advanced practice nurse program.
  • Active NP/PA license in State of Illinois and Active Drug Enforcement Administration license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history and physical exams.
  • Diagnose and manage oncologic conditions in collaboration with oncologists.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and supportive care.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as blood work, imaging, and biopsies.
  • Manage treatment-related side effects, including nausea, pain, fatigue, and immunosuppressive complications.
  • Monitor patients for disease progression and response to treatment.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, side effects, and supportive care measures.
  • Guide patients on symptom management and lifestyle modifications.
  • Provide emotional support and coordinate referrals for mental health or social work services.
  • Work alongside oncologists, radiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Coordinate patient care, including referrals to radiation oncology, surgery, or specialty services.
  • Document patient encounters and treatment plans in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, treatment protocols, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to institutional cancer programs.
  • Provide mentorship and training to nursing staff or student trainees.
