Requirements
- Hold valid certification from an approved organization such as the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NIC, CI, CT, CSC), National Association of the Deaf, or a recognized state agency.
- Demonstrate fluency in American Sign Language, Pidgin Signed English, Contact Signing, Signed English, and reverse interpretation to spoken English.
- Provide accurate, complete, simultaneous interpretation in a wide variety of settings.
- Have familiarity with DFAS culture, terminology, and finance/accounting vocabulary.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site and virtual interpreting for meetings, trainings, staff discussions, performance reviews, disciplinary discussions, interviews, and other DFAS events.
- Interpret fluently between spoken English and American Sign Language, Pidgin Signed English, Contact Signing, and Signed English, simultaneously and consecutively.
- Support communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing employees during daily work activities.
- Review event materials in advance when provided, including agendas, speeches, and documents.
