Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing with a certificate.
  • A current California Registered Nurse license is required.
  • At least one year of experience as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting is required.
  • Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications from the American Heart Association are required upon hire.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke certification is required upon hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention/AB508 certification is required upon hire.
  • Proficiency in written and oral English communication is required.
  • Ability to practice leadership, interpersonal, communication, teamwork, quality improvement, and professional skills.
Responsibilities
  • Set priorities according to patient care needs.
  • Complete initial and reassessments of patient care needs based on chart review or direct observation.
  • Document patient care according to diagnoses and established standards of practice.
  • Reassess patients as their condition warrants and prepare transfers and discharges as appropriate.
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of potential behavioral and physical emergencies and initiate appropriate actions and timely interventions.
  • Recognize indicators of abuse and report them properly.
  • Practice National Patient Safety Goals and follow applicable Joint Commission reference standards.
  • Use appropriate methods to assess and manage patient-fall risk and prevent skin breakdown on intact skin.
  • Assess and manage restraints as appropriate.
  • Perform and document nursing interventions legibly, accurately, and in a timely manner to meet patient care needs.
  • Coordinate total nursing care using the plan of care to provide continuity of care.
  • Teach patients and document patient education consistently and appropriately.
  • Provide complete follow-up instructions before discharge, verify patient understanding through demonstration or verbalization, and document the instructions in the medical record.
  • Serve as the resource nurse when oriented and directed.
  • Collaborate with other professional disciplines to support effective and efficient patient care and desired patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to quality nursing care through performance-improvement techniques that demonstrate positive patient-care outcomes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Emergency-room setting experience is preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is preferred.
  • Basic dysrhythmia certification is preferred.
