Requirements
  • Extensive troubleshooting experience is required.
  • Knowledge of relay logic, switches, transformers, and motor controls is required; knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams is required.
  • Must live in the Cocoa Beach area.
  • Must be available for rotating on-call assignments and respond to the Port Canaveral Bridge within 30 minutes while on call.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions and understand written, oral, or diagram-based instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and related documents.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk on varied surfaces, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and ascend and descend stairs and ladders regularly.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and use manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, gas-powered, and electric-powered tools and equipment.
  • Required vision includes close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions, at heights, in tight spaces, and around wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and occasional toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Ability to work in and around water and from boats.
  • Ability to wear job-appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to complete work safely, efficiently, and accurately.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in electrical maintenance and repair of movable bridges and roadway lighting.
  • Install, maintain, and repair wiring, electrical circuits, switches, relays, resistors, contactors, lighting, motors, generators, surge arrestors, breakers, fuses, programmable logic controllers, control circuits, drives, and related mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair bridge malfunctions.
  • Work from heights using bucket trucks, snooper trucks, scaffolding, ladders, and aerial platform lifts.
  • Perform routine bridge maintenance, including cleaning contacts, replacing lamps, and adjusting or replacing limit switches.
  • Perform routine maintenance and service air-conditioning units.
  • Perform monthly amperage and megohm readings on electrical motors.
  • Maintain bridge street, navigational, traffic-signal, and advanced-warning lighting.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance of bridge components to ensure continuous bridge operations.
  • Maintain span locks and traffic gates.
  • Complete monthly maintenance logs and reports.
  • Assist professional engineers with annual inspections of movable-bridge electrical and mechanical systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Journeyman electrician license is preferred but not required.
  • Experience reading movable bridge electrical plans, blueprints, and schematic drawings is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structures maintenance and safe work methods is preferred but not required.
