Primary Function of Position
Intuitive is the pioneer in robotic assisted surgery and robotic assisted bronchoscopy, designing and manufacturing complex systems for use with da Vinci and ION procedures. These systems are tightly integrated with digital capabilities, which enhance clinical outcomes for patients, drive hospital efficiency and optimize costs to serve.
With four main business units, Intuitive is highly customer focused, delivering a varied range of new technologies, systems and instruments / accessories into the market on a regular basis. Supporting this, the Program Management Office (PMO) sits separate from the Business Units and other functions, providing specialist project, program and portfolio management expertise for the successful delivery of these New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) projects.
Reporting into the portfolio management function of the PMO, we are creating a new role to own the business and project management frameworks, processes and tools, and delivery of training for all relevant professionals across Intuitive. As a recognized leader in this area, this role will provide project assurance and drive continuous improvement, through autonomous review of project execution.
Essential Job Duties
Frameworks, Processes and Tools:
- Owns the overall frameworks used to develop products throughout the full lifecycle, from early concept evolution, through development, and commercialization, to end-of-life.
- Ensures the collaboration and engagement of all functions across the business, through the definition of processes and tools that deliver projects on time, to the required cost and quality.
- Keeps up to date with current industry best practices, from a variety of sources, to ensure that Intuitive is always working with best-in-class processes and tools.
- Ensures alignment between the Design Controls and the NPDI framework.
- Develops and maintains tools that support how the work gets done, ensuring they remain fit for purpose.
- Will support the creation of an NPDI Navigator, a web-based tool that allows team members in any function to access their workstream and navigate quickly to supporting processes and tools that will help them deliver a successful project.
Training:
- Owns the training plan for Project Managers, delivering training with our Center of Excellence for PMO, while collaborating with POET for broader training delivery across Intuitive.
- Creates, maintains and delivers training materials for the NPDI framework, processes and tools, to enhance the skills of all project team members.
Project Assurance:
- Provides an independent assessment of the health of new product and sustaining projects, working with PMs and their teams to understand how projects are progressing and how effective and efficient the frameworks, processes and tools are in execution.
- Partners with PMO leadership to drive continuous improvement by deploying best practices.
- Designs and owns the PMO KPIs that measure the effectiveness and efficiency of process execution and delivery.
- Ensures senior PM’s and directors have the skills required to also undertake project assurance.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 10 years of program management experience with a bachelor’s degree and 9 years with Master’s degree. This must include hands-on experience with development and commercialization of new products.
- Proven track record in establishing NPDI frameworks and guiding businesses through their implementation and on-going use, again in medical device / highly regulated industry sectors.
- Experienced in the design and delivery of training materials to enhance the skills of PMs and their core / extended teams in NPD / Sustaining project delivery.
- Track record in project assurance to provide a positive experience that helps drive more successful project outcomes and identifies new best practices that everyone can learn from.
- Seasoned in coaching and developing team members.
- Excellent listening and communication skills.
- Excellent written and presentation skills.
Required Education and Training
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Masters or MBA preferred
