Requirements
  • Graduate Degree (PhD or PhDabd) in Spanish Studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of Spanish at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and Spanish
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International Spanish
  • Experience in computer-based instruction, and in the incorporation and development of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials, and resources in a blended/online/hybrid course delivery
  • Application of online student tracking systems
  • Competence in the use of web-based course administrative tools designed and supported by the University, as well as Connect, LearnSmart, Brightspace and similar Learning platforms
  • Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team; supervise/mentor the Teaching Assistant assigned to their section; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking
  • Commitment to time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams
Responsibilities
  • Duties and responsibilities include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty)
  • Successful candidate is expected to work closely with BUFA course coordinator in multi-section courses or with the Hispanic and Latin American Studies Program Coordinator for single-section courses
