Compensation
Effective September 1, 2026 - $7,887.59 per half course (195 hours nominally)
Effective September 1, 2026 - $15,775.20 per full course (390 hours nominally)
Please note: Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.
Duties and responsibilities will bein accordance withArticle 22.01 of the Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty). Successful candidate is expected to work closely with BUFA course coordinator in multi-section courses or with the Hispanic and Latin American Studies Program Coordinator for single-section courses.
1. Graduate Degree (PhD or PhDabd) in Spanish Studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of Spanish at a University level. Native or near native fluency in English and Spanish. Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International Spanish.
2. Experience in computer-based instruction, and in the incorporation and development of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials, and resources in a blended/online/hybridcoursedelivery. Application of online student tracking systems. Competence in the use of web-based course administrative toolsdesigned and supported by the University, as well as Connect, LearnSmart, Brightspace and similareLearningplatforms.
3. Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references. Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision. Ability to work within a team; supervise/mentor the TA assigned to their section; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt andaccuratemarking. Commitment toparticipatein required committee marking including on-line activities,mid-termand final exams.
4. Commitment to responsible time management (e.g.course structuring, punctuality for lectures). Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per weekrequired) and proctoring exams.
