Requirements
  • High school education or the equivalent.
  • Some experience in a high-volume food service operation.
  • A ServSafe certification from the State of Minnesota.
  • A valid driver's license for driving the seminary van to shop for grocery and wholesale goods; a Department of Motor Vehicles background check is required.
  • Capacity to regularly prepare meals for varying groups of 2 to 14 people while maintaining fine quality, with menu-planning experience that includes understanding special dietary needs.
  • Ability to prepare one monthly meal during the school year for approximately 20 people.
Responsibilities
  • Plan menus, including alternate options for individuals with special dietary needs.
  • Clean and prepare fresh foods according to recipe specifications, as much as possible from scratch, while following ServSafe food-handling guidelines.
  • Serve an evening meal to the priest community generally three times per week from Monday through Wednesday.
  • Maintain an inventory of kitchen goods, label and date opened items, practice first-in, first-out inventory rotation, restock kitchen essentials, maintain shopping lists, and shop as needed.
  • Maintain daily upkeep and cleaning of the fourth-floor kitchen, fifth-floor kitchen storage, and lounge area.
  • Clean and provide basic care for kitchen appliances and items, assist with loading and emptying the dishwasher, and hand-wash other items as needed.
  • Maintain refrigerator cleanliness and dispose of outdated food.
  • Clean approximately seven priest rooms according to each resident priest's instructions, including toilets, showers, vanities, and vacuuming.
  • Clean approximately four fourth-floor guest rooms upon guest departure, including sitting rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms; restock supplies, change sheets and towels, vacuum, and hang the guest sign on the door.
  • Collaborate with the Front Desk and Guestmaster on guest departure and arrival timing.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings from September through December and February through May.
  • During slower periods such as January term and summer, consult with the Operations Coordinator to assist with project-related needs such as guest-room preparation for conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
