RN Special Procedures Coordinator
Job Description
The RN Special Procedures Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the work of one or more surgical specialties by providing leadership, guidance, professional development, and assistance to staff. Collaborates with physicians of specialty areas to ensure efficient use of OR suites and attainment of desired patient outcomes. Performs scrub and circulating duties to ensure competency of clinical skills.

Required: IL RN; CNOR RNFA completion within 1 year; ACLS instructor certification; BLS within 90 days of hire
Pay: Based on experience, starting at $37.23
Responsibilities
Applies principles of disinfection and sterilization. Demonstrates knowledge of basic aseptic techniques. Recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data. , Assists in leading OR nursing staff by providing development of staff, identifying resource nurses for each specialty, participating in interview and hiring process, validating staff competencies, and providing performance feedback on a regular basis. Participates in the planning, coordination, and presentation of required in-services. , Assists in the positioning, skin preparation, and draping of the patient., Assists with clean up and case turnover., Assumes accountability for verification of operative procedure being performed., Collaborates with OR Manager to identify preceptors, coordinate their development, and coordinate staff orientation., Coordinates clinical trials of new supplies and equipment for assigned specialties, including capital budget preparation. , Coordinates the development of an appropriate outcome based on the appropriate clinical pathway. Compares patient’s response to intended outcomes and changes plan of care accordingly. Represents the perioperative specialty at medical staff, other nursing unit, and ancillary department meetings., Coordination of Care - Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients., Demonstrates knowledge of patient identification., Diagnosis - Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues., Evaluation - Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes as appropriate to physician and/or other disciplines., Handles, identifies, and delivers all specimens, cultures, implantable devices, and homografts., Implementation - Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards., Knowledge - In collaboration with Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities. , Operates and maintains equipment according to recommended manufacturer’s instructions and policies and procedures., Outcomes Identification - Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation., Performs circulating and scrub duties as assigned to maintain clinical skills. Circulates all operative procedures performed. , Performs circulating duties according to standards of practice as assigned. Participates in the development and maintenance of competencies necessary to function in the circulating role., Performs hospital and surgery computer system interaction and collaborates with Surgery Information System Specialist to update and maintain system preference cards., Planning - Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes., Relationships - Establishes effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health care team. Identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions., Reviews the upcoming surgery schedule for proactive equipment and supply usage planning. Collaborates with Materials Management, OR/CS Materials Specialist, and OR Manager to acquire needed equipment and supplies, ensure safe and efficient utilization of equipment and monitor the cost efficiency of cases. {+ 5 more}
Requirements
