- A Bachelor's degree is required.
- Completion of an accredited medical laboratory scientist program is required.
- National certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology, American Association of Bioanalysts, American Medical Technologists, or an equivalent certification is required, or the candidate must be eligible for board certification and obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- A current Florida license as a Medical Technologist in the specialty or specialties required by the assigned laboratory sections must be maintained.
- Computer system proficiency, including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions, is required.
- Experience is not required.
- Analyze blood and body fluids using automated and complex manual methods while following established policies and procedures.
- Verify routine results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability using prescribed guidelines.
- Perform, evaluate, and document quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Receive guidance and direction from more experienced team members or a lead.
- Ensure proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies.
- Communicate critical results to patient caregivers and report unusual findings to the immediate supervisor.
- Report work activities and pending work to the oncoming technologist.
- Respond to work-related technical inquiries as needed.
- Perform specimen collection, receiving, and processing procedures as required.
- Answer the telephone and greet guests in the department.
- Maintain current job knowledge to effectively instruct students or other personnel.
- Participate actively in the laboratory quality improvement program.
- Follow established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
- Practice infection control and safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records and hospital and departmental matters.
- Maintain punctual attendance and comply with applicable organizational policies and legal standards.
- Maintain compliance with Baptist Health policies and procedures.
- Perform other assigned duties.
